The Sporting Car Club of SA will run its Morgans Unley All Historic Mallala this weekend, with the club to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the popular event.

First held in 1982 at Mallala Motorsport Park, the event pays homage to all kinds of vehicles from the past regardless of the make and model.

Even as the automotive industry has advanced over the years, the event has also evolved and features a mix of state-of-the-art modern technology mixing it with classic mechanical machinery.

More than 130 classic cars spread across nine different categories are entered in the two-day meeting, with most to hold up to five races. Regularities and Supersprints will also feature throughout the meeting.

At the heart of the event though the number of old cars competing with the oldest on show dating back to almost a century ago - two Dodge Specials from 1928 to battle it out in the Open Wheelers Regularity.

The Open Wheelers Regularity will feature a number of significant machinery, with the oldest vehicles entered dating back to almost a century ago – a pair of Dodge Specials from 1928.

That same category has cars from the 1930s, 1960s, 1980s and even a Panther 23SR3 built in 2011 – highlighting the range of cars set to grace the Mallala circuit.

While they may not have the oldest cars, the biggest fields for the weekend will belong to Historic Sports Sedans and Group N categories where there will around 25 cars entered in each field.

Sporting Car Club of SA Event organiser Melissa Rees was looking forward to another historic year of the event.

“It will be a pleasure to once again host the Morga’s Unley All Historic Mallala this year as it’s a true showcase of nostalgia that features some of the iconic machines of yesteryear,” Rees said.

“Cars have been a major part of humanity for so long and this event helps prevent classic cars from being forgotten – something it has been doing so for the past 40 years.

“It’s important to pay tribute to these cars for what they represent and we’re proud to have such a diverse range of cars and bikes from a period spanning almost 100 years. It’s just fantastic to see.

“I highly recommend any passionate car enthusiasts to come to Mallala and enjoy the show. It will truly be spectacular.”

It’s not just cars that are featuring across the weekend either, with an extra 20 historic motorcycles also entered with the category to have multiple demonstrations on the circuit.

There’s plenty of off-track entertainment too, with the Caddle Crash Repair Show & Shine featuring just as many blasts from the past.

The action begins on Saturday from 9am local time and has an anticipated finish of around 4:45pm, while Sunday starts at 8:45am and concludes at 4:00pm with the official trophy presentations.

Tickets for the event start from $25 per adult and can be purchased at the gate or online here
