The Radical Cup Australia returns for their second round of its 2022 season this weekend, and it will be done in style as Wanneroo Raceway hosts the category out west.
 
After what was a big season opener at Phillip Island as part of the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships in March, the category will continue the first season of its new era with a pair of 45-minute endurance races.
 
Running as a support category for the Supercars Championship’s Perth SuperNight event, there will be 16 competitors featuring in the round - with a number of familiar faces and new recruits making up the entry list.
 
Headlining the field will be champions of the category in series leader Chris Perini and Peter Paddon - the former to join forces once again with Peter Carr following a successful outing in Phillip Island.
 
Finishing on the outright podium in that same round will be the strongest combo from WA, made up of Adam Lisle and Jordan Oon.
 
For Lisle, having the national series make its way out west to Wanneroo is an exciting prospect and something that the WA crews have been working hard at getting.
 
“I am definitely looking forward to it because it’s something that has been in the works for a number of years – especially since the state series has been growing,” Lisle said.
 
“The goal has always been for the national series to do a round in WA. It’s an exciting format and all the other local drivers will be thrilled to see the national format come to Australia.
 
“The track has good overtaking opportunities and although it’s a short lap, the duration of the races will make the need for good strategy in terms of the need for overtaking, pitstops and managing the race.
 
“I think it’s easier preparation than the opening round. I had never driven Phillip Island before but having a familiar racetrack will make it a lot easier for me and local drivers.
 
“We can wake up in our bed which is always nice.”
 
Other notable entries for the round include Porsche driver Madeline Stewart and rookie Caleb Sumich. who will not only be making his debut in the category, but for circuit racing overall.
 
The 16-year-old has quite the resume to his name already having starred on the karting circuit as well as performing stunt driving duties.
 
Joining Lisle, Oon and Sumich as the local entries include former Australian F3 driver Bryce Moore, Jay Wong and Sam Dicker, Elliot Schutte, Travis Sharpe and Joe Bergic.
 
The series will have practice sessions on Friday before Qualifying and race one take place on Saturday, while the second race will be held on Sunday morning.
 
Following on from this weekend, the series will then return to the Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships for its third round on 27-29 May.
