Deniliquin ready for big weekend of state championships
Friday 27 May, 2022
This weekend will prove to be a busy couple of days for the Deniliquin Sporting Car Club with the club to host two state championship rounds.
On Saturday, it will host some of the best motorkhana drivers from around Victoria for the Motorsport Australia Victorian Motorkhana Championship before the state’s finest khanacrossers arrive for the third round of their state championship.
Taking place at the club’s home location in Deniliquin, Saturday’s motorkhana will see competitors complete 10 tests across the day, while there will be up to five tests in Sunday’s khanacross.
Unfortunately, the numbers haven’t been exactly what the club had hoped for, however it presents an opportunity for them to get both events right as they have never held two state championship rounds in the same month.
Club President Neil Goudie was excited for the weekend and was hopeful it would all run without any issues.
“We often do a state motorkhana but always follow it up with a club-level event, so it will be a bit of a challenge to do two state rounds for the first time,” Goudie said.
“Even though we don’t have the amount of competitors we were expecting, it’s still going to be a busy weekend and one we’re looking forward too.
“Usually, we just do one state event, but a few of our motorkhana competitors encouraged us to do another and seeing as khanacrosses are similar, we put our hand up to do it.
“We have the general idea of what we're doing and we have some good people working in getting the event up and running so it should be good – the khanacross area is also looking nice and green due to the rain so competitors should enjoy it.
“We also think a successful weekend will showcase the club and help improve numbers for state rounds in the future.”
The Motorsport Australia Victorian Motorkhana Championship takes place on 28 May and the Motorsport Australia Victorian Khanacross Championship on 29 May in Deniliquin.
