Piastri deemed young Victorian star of 2021

Oscar Piastri has won the Victorian Sport Awards’ Global Wellness Tracking Young Athlete of the Year.
Oscar Piastri has claimed yet another award, being named as the 2021 Victorian Sport Awards’ Global Wellness Tracking Young Athlete of the Year.
Held annually, the Victorian Sport Awards honour those who have made outstanding contributions to sport in Australia or internationally, and recognise athletes, coaches, administrators and volunteers from both metropolitan and regional areas in Victoria.
Last year proved a highly successful run for the Alpine Reserve F1 driver after becoming the first Australian to win the FIA Formula 2 Championship courtesy of six wins, a further five podiums and a five pole positions.
The 21-year-old was nominated for two awards during the gala dinner, including Male Athlete of the Year. While he was awarded the Young Athlete gong, the Male Athlete of the Year Award went to tennis champion Dylan Alcott AO was named as the Male Athlete of the Year.
Motorsport Australia volunteer officials Bruce Astbury and Lucy Hatton were also nominated for separate awards throughout the evening, but neither claimed top prize despite their impressive efforts.
