The Supercars Championship has secured the services of the highly esteemed Michael Masi, with the former Formula 1 Race Director appointed as the independent Chair of the Supercars Commission. 
  
Masi will begin in the role effective immediately, replacing Supercars’ Hall of Fame inductee, Neil Crompton, who stood down earlier this year. 
  
One of Australia’s most successful exports as an official, Masi has an extensive history within the sport, with experience at the highest level both in Australia and abroad. 
  
The former Motorsport Australia (then the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport) employee was part of the Supercars Championship team between 2015 and 2018, first as Dunlop Super2 Race Director before being promoted to the Supercars Championship Deputy Race Director role under Tim Schenken. 
  
In 2018, he was appointed to Formula 1 Deputy Race Director alongside Charlie Whiting in addition to holding his role in Supercars, before the untimely passing of Whiting on the eve of the 2019 Australian Grand Prix thrust Masi into the senior role for the next three seasons. 
  
Upon his return to Supercars, CEO Shane Howard was thrilled to have an individual as experienced as Masi join the team.

“Michael has worked closely and industriously with Supercars team owners, principals and stakeholders for many years and returns to Australia with vast experience and leadership which will be invaluable in guiding our sport into the future. 
  
“I have met very few people with such an extensive understanding of the industry combined with an amazing passion. Michael will be a great successor to Neil who did such an outstanding job. 
  
“We welcome Michael back to the pinnacle of racing here in Australia and look forward to working closely with him in his role as Chair of the Commission.” 
  
Taking over Crompton, Masi was excited for the new challenge. 
  
“I view this role as continuing the amazing work already done by Neil and the Commission to lead Supercars into a brand new era with the introduction of the Gen3 Chevrolet Camaro and Ford Mustang,” Masi explained. 
 
“I’m very proud to have been appointed to this role and look forward to working with the key stakeholders in the sport to ensure the future is an exciting one for our teams, partners, sponsors and most importantly the fans.”
 
Motorsport Australia CEO Eugene Arocca was pleased to welcome Masi back to Australia. 
 
“Michael has a wealth of experience in motorsport as we all know, and he will be a fantastic addition to the Supercars team,” Arocca said.
