The Sporting Car Club of SA (SCCSA) will hold the fourth round of the Motorsport Australia SA Motor Race Championships later this month with more than 170 entries are expected to attend the event.
Taking place at The Bend Motorsport Park, it will be a special race meeting for the club and the state championship, with a number of new categories to feature across the weekend.
The most notable inclusion in the round is the Australian Formula Ford Series, which holds the penultimate round of its seven-round 2022 season.
A solid field of 21 competitors are entered in the round and series leader James Piszcyk could secure the title at The Bend. With a maximum of 60 points on offer at each round, Piszcyk’s current lead of 36 over the second-placed Valentino Astuti puts him in the box seat for the title.
Another new category in the event is the Historic Brabham category, which will see 12 cars from Jack Brabham’s successful manufacturing years in action.
Fans of the iconic brand of open-wheelers can also see Repco Supercars Championship driver Tim Slade in the company’s famous sports car, the Brabham BT-62, with the South Australian to compete in the Sports Cars field.
The Sports Cars field will be one of a few regular categories on show, with Circuit Excels, Holden HQs and Saloon Cars, Improved Production and open wheelers all part of the schedule.
As usual, the South Australian Circuit Excel Series boasts the largest field with more than 40 cars entered, while Improved Production has a solid field of 20 cars.
In addition to the categories with regular high numbers, there will be a strong showing from the open wheeler fields with a large numbers of motorcycle-powered Wolfs, Wests and Radicals to make up another new category – Australian Sports Cars.
With a number of drivers from the GC Marine Australian Protype Series such as Mark Laucke, Paul Trengove and the returning Michael Naguib entered in the category, the category will be one to watch.
Event organiser Melissa Rees was looking forward to a successful weekend.
“There are many aspects about this particular event that we look forward to and I think having the inclusion of some of these new categories is definitely at the top,” Rees said.
“With that said, we’re really pleased with how much interest our regular categories continue to show in the Championships, with many growing in numbers with every round.
“The club is proud to host the Championships every year and seeing it significantly grow this year is fantastic to see – the desire to race amongst state-level competitors is clearly still well and truly alive.
“This round will also be special as we will be crowning the State Champions for 2022.
“I must say a big thank you to all of the volunteers including our local partners SAMROA, SAMSSA, Women for Wheels and Ambulance Service Australia for supporting the SCCSA events throughout the year.
“We look forward to celebrating another successful year of competition with drivers and officials and we encourage fans to make their way down to the track and be part of the celebrations.”
