After a thrilling Bathurst 1000, the Supercars Championship will now head up north for the return of the highly anticipated Gold Coast 500.
In what will be the first round held at the picturesque Surfers Paradise since 2019, there is one major narrative dominating the headlines.
Shane van Gisbergen will be crowned as the 2022 champion.
That is if something doesn't go horribly wrong.
Following his second win in ‘The Great Race’ earlier this month, van Gisbergen extended his lead out to 557 points over the only other championship contender in Cam Waters.
With 600 points on offer over the course of the next two rounds, Waters will almost need to win every race and hope that the current championship leader retires in all.
However, that would be wishful thinking considering van Gisbergen has finished every race this year in a campaign that has seen him win 19 races and claimed a further six podiums.
His record on the Gold Coast is pretty solid too, with four wins to his name.
To win his third title, SVG only needs to add a minimum of 33 points to his tally this weekend.
With the event taking place in the two-race format and more points on offer for each place, any finish from 24th or higher will all but confirm van Gisbergen’s title on Saturday.
The Kiwi is more than likely to become the champion-elect on Saturday afternoon unless he fails to finish, for which Waters will have to finish fourth or higher to prolong the inevitable until Sunday.
While the main title fight may be over by Saturday afternoon, there are plenty of other battles taking place throughout the field with five drivers realistically in the running for the minor positions.
The second placed Waters holds a comfortable 210-point lead over Anton De Pasquale, who in turn holds a slender 25 advantage over Chaz Mostert. Will Davison and Broc Feeney are also in the hunt for second and third place.
The Gold Coast 500 is sure to keep fans entertained throughout the weekend, as is the event’s famous festival-like atmosphere for which 2022 will be no different to previous years.
The theme of 2022 is all about colour with stilt walkers, hula hoop acts and Brazilian drummers to entertain fans along with FMX and BMX stunts, jet skis, fly boards and wakeboarding taking over the Nerang River.
At night, highly acclaimed musical artists Bliss N Eso, British DJ Carl Cox and Sneaky Sound System will take centre stage every day to continue the party well into night.
Tickets for the event are still available and be purchased here, while Foxtel and Kayo will broadcast the whole event live.
The Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 takes place in Surfers Paradise on 28-30 October.
