Five years worth the wait for FCC

When the Ford Coupe Club (FCC) recently ran its HTA Reunion, it was an event met with a combination of excitement and relief.

Five years since its last event in Bathurst, the club was forced to continually postpone what should have been an annual event due to an array of extreme circumstances.

Lockdowns, mandates, flooding and just bad weather were the constant obstacles to the event, which was almost certain to return in November last year until external elements once again caused the delay.

With 2022 seemingly a refreshing return to normality, the club was finally able to hold the event and celebrated with a huge field of more than 100 entrants.

So much was this event missed by people, that the entry list saw people gather from all around the country as entrants from five different states and territories all took part.

Throughout the event, there was a range of activities tailored to individuals of all ages, included a car display in the centre of the town, a poker run through Mildura and surrounding areas and a khanacross at the Aust Link Industrial Skill Centre in Mildura.

One of the biggest hits though, was the show and shine at The Gateway in Mildura, as a full crowd of car enthusiasts and locals attended to see the classic old Ford Falcon Coupes up close and personal.

With the event funded by the Victorian Government’s Community Motorsport Program, Ford Coupe Club of Australia contact Tas Mourmouras was highly thankful for all the support they received in getting this popular event back up and running.

“Our last HTA was in 2017 at Bathurst and since then we’ve had lockdowns, mandates, floods, storms and the never-ending potholes on the highways, but none of that stopped us from having a great weekend in Mildura with close to 100 entrants in our HTA Reunion,” Mourmouras said.

“Honestly, it was a massive relief throughout the club to finally hold this event and the fact that it was so successful made it even better.

“There are plenty of people who we would like to acknowledge for this including Motorsport Australia for their massive support in helping us to organise this great event and reuniting people that haven’t had the opportunity to get together in such a long time.

“We would like to thank Mildura Rural City Council for their hospitality, The Gateway for their generosity, St John’s Ambulance for its services and support, Aust Link for allowing us to operate an event with their facility and Tasco Fuels Mildura for looking after our club and its members.

“We would also like to give a special thanks to John Kimerlis from the In-N-Out Drive Thru Coffee for looking after our members with great food and drinks throughout the weekend.

“The Ford Coupe Club especially thank all of the entrants who made it a great weekend for young and old enthusiasts, we hope to share another event with you all again soon.”
