A new class has been added to 2023’s Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour event.
Bronze ranked drivers will now have a class to themselves, following competitor feedback on the international event.
The class will be for GT3 entries with either three or four drivers, all ranked Bronze in the FIA’s driver ranking system.
The Bronze class will add to the various categories within the broader Class A, GT3 competition.
That is divided into Pro, Pro-Am (for combinations including at least one Bronze-ranked driver) and Silver (where all drivers must be categorised Silver or Bronze).
Other minor changes to the sporting and technical regulations communicated to teams today include a refinement to the Balance of Performance requirements - in line with SRO regulations - regarding minimum driver weight, to better equalise competition and BoP across each class.
"We have worked hard on improving communication with competitors, both prospective and current, this year and feedback we received on the 2023 Sporting and Technical Regulations is that there would be interest in the addition of a category for all-Bronze ranked combinations," Bathurst 12 Hour Event Director Shane Rudzis said.
"It's a relatively easy change to make and falls in line with other GT3 endurance races around the world. If it helps even one or two more teams make the decision to join the race this year or in the future, then it's worthwhile.
"The signs are great for good competition across every class this year."
In more exciting news for the event, Shannons Insurance has also confirmed it will return as an event partner for the next three years.
Shannons branding will appear at Hell Corner, along with a mix of off-track activations to enhance the fan experience for patrons next February.
As part of Shannons’ support, fans will enjoy the return of the Shannons Super Rig in Harris Park, with their regular activations including their racing simulators and their rooftop viewing deck which provides views of the lower part of Mount Panorama.
"Shannons are excited to be back onboard with this great event which takes place at one of the best tracks in the world, Bathurst!" Shannons' Simon Jreige said.
The Bathurst 12 Hour takes place from 3-5 February, 2023.
