The Gold Coast Tweed Motorsport Club (GCTMC) held its first motorsport event for the year with a successful Come and Try Khanacross.
Acting as a pre-season for the new seven-round South East Queensland Khanacross Series, which begins in March, a field of 18 competitors took on 12 challenges during the day.
From veterans such as Glenn Brinkman and Alan Kuss to first time drivers, the event had a mix of experienced drivers of all levels.
While it wasn’t being officially timed for competition purposes, Kuss was one of the front runners in his new Subaru, while there were a number of junior drivers who were highly impressive.
Club President Mike Bruce was pleased with the day and lauded all those who attended.
“The club is really happy with how everything turned out and everyone was saying how much they enjoyed the day. The weather was great and there was plenty of socialising,” Bruce said.
“These days are really important because it’s pure grassroots motorsport where you can use virtually any car. From a Hyundai Getz to Glenn Brinkman’s Motorsport Australia Off Road Championship Can-Am and everything in between – we had quite a good entry list.
“There was a lot of good competition and lots of family camaraderie with the likes of Alan Kuss competing with his wife, while a 14-year-old called Sally came back with her grandfather after having a great time last year.
“It’s really just an event for people to hone their skills or get a taste of motorsport – we even had a young kid called Toby driving very well and was one of the fastest for the event in his WRX.
“Toby who was the first person to fully commit to that new Khanacross series, which was fantastic to see.”
