The tireless work of Motorsport Australia officials is being recognised at each round of the Shannons SpeedSeries in 2023.
 
As part of the opening AWC Race Tasmania, the first Shannons Volunteer of the Round has been named, with young scrutineer Sophie Nichols recognised as the inaugural winner.
 
Sophie, 16, was congratulated for her help, support and assistance provided to the entire scrutiny team working at the Tasmanian event.
 
“I was so shocked to find out that I have won the award. I never expected to win anything like this,” Sophie said.
 
“I am so proud to be able to achieve something like this. It inspires me to keep doing more officiating.
 
“A big thanks to my dad for always pushing me to come out - If it wasn’t for him, I would have no clue what motorsport is.
 
“Also, thank you to all the officials for coming out this weekend as they have been amazing once again, and finally, the scrutineering team who mentor me and teach me heaps of things every time.
 

“Scrutineering is helping me get a broader base of what happens at the race track and I am happy with how fast I have been learning.
 
“I love the family aspect of being an official. Everyone is willing to come out and help with everything and for me all the officials are amazing.”
 
The next round of the Shannons SpeedSeries takes place at the iconic Mount Panorama, with the Hi-Tec Oils Bathurst 6 Hour on 7-9 April.
 
Tickets for the event are available from www.motorsporttickets.com.au, with the event to be screened on Stan Sport on Saturday and Sunday, while Saturday afternoon’s coverage will be screened on 9Gem around Australia.
