The Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia Series gets underway this weekend.
The Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia Series gets underway this weekend with a healthy field of 24 to contest the first round of the 2023 season.

Taking place at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit, the popular one-make series will enter the new season with more than a third of the field making their series debut.

In what will be one of the most competitive seasons to date, a number of the debutants are the offspring of famous drivers, including Ronan Murphy - the son of four-time Bathurst champion Greg,

Murphy isn’t the only Kiwi following in the footsteps of a family member, with Zac Stitchbury, the son of the great late Ashley, and the grandson of legendary Sir Richard Giltrap, Marco Giltrap, both locked in for Team Porsche New Zealand’s two-car attack.

After a stint racing overseas, former Ferrari Driver Academy Selection Program finalist Marcos Flack returns to Australia to compete in the Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge, with his father Damien having been a prominent Carrera Cup competitor.

Other notable debutants running in the series this year include Perth teenager and Radical Cup graduate Caleb Sumich, Caspar Tresidder, Brayden Taylor, Tim Wolfe and Hamish Fitzsimmons.

A number of series regulars will return in 2023 for a crack at the Pro Class, including Harrison Goodman, Lachlan Bloxsom and Tom McLennan and Tom Taplin.

Queenslander Brett Boulton headlines the Morris Pro-Am entry list along with last year’s title rival Sam Shahin, while the likes of Andrew Goldie and David Grieg will be hoping to slot into class title contention.

Making up the rest of the Pro-Am field are Richard Cowen, Jonathan Glicksten, Matt Slavin, and Travis Knipe.

Rounding out the strong entry list for this weekend’s season opener at Phillip Island are the Class B competitors, with another champion of 2022 back to defend his title.

Defending class champion Lachlan Harburg has confirmed his spot for the season and will have his hands full defending the likes of one of debutant Brayden Taylor and the experienced Phil Morriss.

The series will hold three races over the weekend, which will wrap up with the first Jim Richards Endurance Trophy race of the season.

Part of the Phillip Island Auto Racing Club’s PIARC Access, the series will be streamed live and free.
