Car Club enjoying street kred at AGP

Saturday 01 April, 2023
The Street Kred Car Club are one of many clubs at the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.
The Street Kred Car Club is on the rise after a tough few years, and is eager to showcase their offerings as one the clubs on show at the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.

The pandemic had a significant impact on the club, losing a number of members when the country, and motorsport events, came to a halt.

Instead of shutting up shop themselves, the club powered through those two difficult years and managed to pull through the other side ready to grow.

Now back to a healthy number of 1500 members, the car club will look at expanding to a bigger and better organisation than it was before 2020.

Specialising in charity shows, car displays and social events, the car club has an extensive range of different vehicles, with anyone with any type of car welcome to join the club.

As the club continues its road to recovery, President and Founder Marcos Saffrone was excited about what the future held.

“We've got everything from old school cars all the way up to the most modern cars on the market – we’re just a simple car club targeted at the average car enthusiast,” Saffrone said.

“We used to have a few more members before the lockdown and although we lost many during the pandemic, we are getting them all back so we’re getting to a good position again.

“Unfortunately, COVID put a big dampener on a lot of things, but now that it's eased, we're going to try and cover a bigger, broader spectrum and try and do events with other clubs, so we can be open with everybody.

“It’s almost like we’re entering a new era now that the door's been re-unlocked, so it’s full steam ahead like we were before COVID.

“We'd still like to expand more because we also do Club Rego with VicRoads and we’re also looking into motorsport now because before that, we used to just hold all our own car shows and charity events.

“With that said, because we are a very family orientated club, some owners don't want to put their cars on track and all that, which we respect – in fact, I am one of them because I build cars to cruise and keep them in pristine condition.”

The club itself has been around for almost a decade now after Saffrone and his wife moved to Victoria and noticed that many car clubs were dedicated to specific makes and models.

And so they became the club with the aim of being a haven for enthusiasts instead of focusing on motorsport to share their pride and joys with the state with other like minded people.

Running events for charity, taking part in car shows and even holding track days every so often, the club grew substantially in a short amount of time.

With the display at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix having been a staple event on its calendar for eight years now, Saffrone was happy to be back for another year.

“I came here with another car club almost 10 years ago, and then we when we launched our car club, it’s grown into a big passion,” Saffrone added.

“Being here brings everyone together like a family type thing and it brings people in who wouldn't normally be exposed to all these different cars and clubs.

“Pretty much all our cars are getting attention this week. The kids love the Spider-Man car, while everyone gets drawn to the skeleton vehicle. We’re happy because all these people are enjoying our cars, asking questions and interacting with our members. That's what we're hoping to get out of this.

“Because we have people from all walks of life, we just try to share the passion with everyone else and this weekend is perfect for that.”
