The Historic Sports and Racing Car Association (HSRCA) has announced a new-look Heritage Touring Cars to headline its annual 2023 Sydney Classic later this year.

Known for it's strong collection of Group A and C cars, the Heritage Touring Cars will trial a new-look competition for two of its rounds this year with the addition of 5.0-litre V8s and 2.0-Litre Super Tourers - responsible to some of the most iconic cars in Australian history.

Dubbed the ‘Legends of Bathurst’, the two new classes are likely to feature vehicles piloted by famed Australian drivers such as Peter Brock, Jim Richards, Dick Johnson and Glenn Seton split across the two classes.

The Early 5.0-litre V8s will include cars from around the Group A era in 1993 - a category that boasted impressive vehicles such as Perkins Engineering Commodore, Paul Radisich Falcon and Bob Pearson Pro-Duct VP Commodore.

Smaller capacity race cars from the early 1990s to 2002 will make up the 2.0-litre Super Tourers class, a class made famous by Audi’s A4 Quattros and the dominant Paul Morris BMW 318i and 320is.

With the Sydney Classic set to be the first of two combined grid events for Heritage Touring Cars in 2023, president Terry Lawlor was excited for what lay ahead.

“Heritage Touring Cars are delighted to have our inaugural combined round with Super Tourers and early V8 Supercars at the HSRCA meet at Sydney Motorsport Park in June,” Lawlor said.

“This is the start of a new chapter in historic racing and it's great to join up with them for it.”

Although the Heritage Touring Cars’ Inaugural Combined Grid of Early 5.0-litre V8s and 2.0-Litre Super Tourers will be the headline act for the popular event, there are plenty of other exciting categories to feature in the Sydney Classic.

Making up the other categories are a full contingent of historic sports and race cars ranging from Group J, K and L cars to the popular Group Q and R cars, as well as Group S and Group N.

There will also be a mix of categories outside of Touring Cars, with a Regularity, Super Sprint, Formula Vees and Formula Fords part of the schedule.
