The Lithgow District Car Club’s Wallerawang Community and Sports Club April Khanacross proved a major success on the weekend as Toby Ivanovic claimed the outright win.

The event was held at the club’s Yvonne Martin Memorial Motorsport Park with the valued support of the Wallerwang Community and Sports Club, which provided the New South Wales town of Portland a brilliant day of khanacross action.

Competitors tackled 12 courses throughout the day, providing a range of challenges for drivers of all experience levels.

Despite the unwelcome forecast leading up to the event, the weather held off and Ivanovic took full advantage by finishing the day on top of the timesheets.

In what was a Subaru podium lockout, Ivanovic shared the podium with Volkaan Gunduz – both behind the wheel of their respective Subaru Impreza, while Josh Redhead filled the final spot on the podium in his Subaru STi.

Ivanovic was pleased to walk away with the win, and thoroughly enjoyed the fast-paced courses on offer at the newly developed motorsport park.

“It was really good to get the win, it was a challenging day because it was quite wet, but it was nice to get it done,” Ivanovic said.

“The rain held off which was good, earlier that morning and the day before it had drenched everything and had left a fair bit of mud, but as the day went on, the tracks started to dry out and grip up.

“It was a pretty close battle with the young fella, Vulkan got me on the first two or three tracks, but I managed to get in front in the last seven or eight which was good.”

“I think courses nine and ten were my favourites because they had a bit of speed to them - I managed to finish five or six seconds ahead of everyone.”

“The car club is great, only just opened but they are a great facility and hopefully they can continue to build on it.”

“Glenn and all the officials were great, it was really well run and got plenty of action in, it was a great day.”

Gundaz not only finished second in the outright standings, but he also claimed victory in the Junior Class ahead of Max Selmes, with Portland’s own Ella Blakely third in her Suzuki Cino.

It was a family affair for the Cooke family as Grant Cooke took top honours in Class C ahead of his father Gary. Gary’s daughter Eryan didn’t walk home empty handed either as she was awarded the Encouragement Award.
