Tasmanian official Melanie Beets has been further recognised for her volunteer official efforts having been nominated for an award in the 2023 Tasmanian Volunteering Awards.

With the awards celebrating the state's volunteers and their contributions to communities across Tasmania, Beets was one of three individuals nominated for the Sport, Recreation and Service Groups Volunteer Award, joining Hockey Tasmania’ Colin Pearson and the Glenorchy Basketball Association’s Rod Graham.

Beets has been involved with the sport for a long time and has showcased a remarkable skill set throughout that time to work her way up the ranks and pick up multiple licenses and qualifications along the way.

A regular fire marshal at the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix, Beet’s management, communication, and delegation skills have also seen her as a Clerk of Course in the making.

Beets is an active member of the Hobart Sporting Car Club currently serves as the club’s secretary and state council delegate.

Should Beets win the award, it will be her second accolade in 2023 after she was named as the 2022 Motorsport Australia Tasmanian Official of the Year.

Presented by Volunteering Tasmania as part of National Volunteer Week, the Tasmanian Volunteering Awards ceremony will take place at Government House in Hobart on 19 May.
