Molly Taylor and Kevin Hansen score another victory in Extreme E

Extreme E

Molly Taylor has taken her second Extreme E victory of the season after surviving a wet and slippery Hydro X Prix.

After suffering a broken driveshaft in the first qualifying, the 2021 Extreme E champion and teammate Kevin Hansen didn’t let the odds defy them.

The pair led from start to finish to qualify for the grand final, where the heavy rain began to fall for the first time in Extreme E history.

Hansen was behind the wheel in the first stint and found himself in the lead after turn one – a crucial move considering the visibility issues competitors behind were facing.

They extended their lead before the driver change allowed for some breathing room for Taylor, comfortably picking up where Hansen left off to claim the second win of the year.

The victory also means that Taylor and Hansen sit firmly atop the championship standings, 11-points clear of their closest competitors.
Taylor will look to make its back-to-back wins as the next round of the championship takes to the Island X Prix in Italy on 8-9 July.

USF2000

Lochie Hughes has extended his championship lead after taking victory in race three of the Discount Tire Grand Prix of Indianapolis.

The Queenslander was part of the leading pack at the race start, taking advantage of caution flags to then take command of the lead at the restart on lap four.

Hughes then comfortably maintained the lead to continue his run of a race win in every event so far this season.

Other results across the weekend saw Hughes on the podium in the opening race, with the Jay Howard Development driver finishing mere inches ahead of championship rival Nikita Johnson.

After having to fight back in the second race after being elbowed out on the opening lap and falling to seventh, Hughes made up good ground to cross the line in fourth.

Hughes now holds a 14-point advantage in the standings as the championship heads to the Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis on 25-26 May.

NTT IndyCar Series

Will Power has had a weekend to forget at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway after being sent into a spin in the opening laps of the GMR Grand Prix.

After qualifying in 12th, the Australian was battling for positions in the top 10 with Kyle Kirkwood, before the Grand Prix of Long Beach winner made a mistake on lap seven – going off track and clipping Power on re-entry.

Power spun and fell to 23rd, forced to work his way back through the grid to finish in the position he started in 12th.

Power will look to recover some much-needed points as the series prepares for the Indianapolis 500 on 28-29 May.

GT World Challenge Europe

Calan Williams has endured a successful outing at Brands Hatch, taking top honours in the Gold cup and seventh in race two.

After a tough result in the opening race of the weekend finishing 15th, Williams was the fastest in his class as he guided his team to their first win of the season.

Alongside teammate, Niklas Kruetten and behind the wheel of the #30 Team WRT BMW, the Australian stormed to the lead during the pit-stop phase of the race, maintaining the advantage through to the checkered flag.

The result now moves Williams to equal 21st in the overall standings after the second round of the championship.

Williams will now turn his attention to the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa on 23-25 May.

GT World Challenge Asia

Three Aussies have endured a difficult opening weekend of the 2023 GT World Challenge Asia season, unable to crack the top 10 in both races.

Broc Feeney, alongside Triple Eight Race Engineering teammate Prince Jefri Ibrahim qualified in 10th and fourth respectively ahead of their two races, potentially setting themselves up for a good haul of points to start the year.

The pairing was unable to gain any places in the first race, ultimately dropping a spot to 11th while teammates Prince Abu Bakar Ibrahim and Lucas Stolz picked up their maiden race win.

They were also unable to capitalise on the second race, finishing in 15th after a red flag ended the affair early.

The Australian pairing of Andrew Macpherson and Ben Porter qualified in 24th and 19th respectively, making up a couple of positions in both races but were unable to find their way into the points.

GT World Challenge Asia continues in a month's time at Fuji International Speedway on 16-18 June.
