Will Brown’s remarkable Supercars Championship run has continued after producing a dominant display in the opening race of the Ned Whisky Tasmania SuperSprint.

The Queenslander led the 42-lap race from lights out the chequered flag to take his second win in three races having secured an impressive ARMOR ALL Pole Position earlier in the day.

Despite facing an early attack from Jack Le Brocq, who started on the front row alongside him, and holding off a late challenge from eventual runner-up Andre Heimgartner, Brown was never truly troubled throughout the race.

With Heimgartner making up three positions after starting from P5, it was the Brad Jones Racing star’s second runner-up for the year courtesy of a good team strategy.

Rounding out the podium behind Heimgartner was Shane van Gisbergen, after the reigning champion climbed seven positions during the race – the last of which came on the last lap when he overtook Cam Waters.

Outside of the final skirmish between van Gisbergen and Waters, the only major drama to occur was in the opening laps when Waters was involved in an incident with current championship leader Brodie Kostecki.

Kostecki and Waters started the race side by side on the second row and it was the latter who made the better start as he made the jump early to move into third and begin his chase down on Le Brocq.

Both drivers ended up passing the Matt Stone Racing driver in quick succession at the start of lap three, before Waters attempted to pass Kostecki shortly after at the famous turn 4 hairpin, which resulted in the two making contact and Kostecki ending up in the wall.

In the same passage, Chaz Mostert and Broc Feeney both made contact on the hairpin exit and both drivers ended up facing the wrong way as a result.

While Feeney and Kostecki were eventually able to continue racing, the latter forced to the garage to fix the Erebus Motorsport Camaro, Mostert’s day was done as he limped back to the pits to be the only race’s non-finisher.

Mostert’s retirement had big ramifications for his title hopes as he dropped behind both van Gisbergen and Brown on the overall standings – Brown gaining the maximum 105-point haul after picking up the fastest lap.

Finishing behind the leading quartet of Brown, Heimgartner, van Gisbergen and Waters was Scott Pye, who crossed the finish line half a second ahead of Tim Slade.

Saturday proved quite a good day out for Matt Stone Racing, with Jack Le Brocq and Cameron Hill finishing seventh and eighth respectively, while Nick Percat’s ninth place was some consolation for Walkinshaw Andretti United.

Making up the top 10 was Tom Randle after he climbed an impressive seven positions throughout the race.
