Oscar Piastri has had a tough day out in the Spanish Grand Prix overnight as the Aussie fell out of the top 10 to finish 13th, while Max Verstappen dominated to make it consecutive victories at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Piastri had shown pace all weekend and had starred in Saturday's Qualifying, making through to Q3 in style before a late error in his last flying lap saw him post the 10th fastest tim in the session.

A penalty to Pierre Gasly saw the rookie start the Grand Prix in P9, however he ended up losing two positions on the opening lap, while McLaren teammate Lando Norris had damage and was forced to the pits.

Piastri battled hard during the 66-lap race and had showcased his talent on multiple occasions, making some great passes and holding off a fast charging Gasly for almost a dozen laps.

But it wasn’t enough for the 22-year-old as he lost places to George Russell, Sergio Perez, Gasly and Charles Leclerc, to eventually settle for 13th.

Starting behind Piastri, both Russell and Perez produced a strong first stint to pick off drivers ahead of them and put themselves in a position for a podium finish, with Russell eventually taking out the final podium place behind Verstappen and Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton.

The FIA Formula 1 World Championship continues later this month with the Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve on 17-19 June.

FIA Formula 2 Championship

Jack Doohan has finished in the top 10 of both races of a FIA Formula 2 Championship round for the first time since Saudi Arabia after a consistent run at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

In what has been a challenging year for the Queenslander, Doohan was on the pace for much of the weekend, which started off with qualifying in third on Friday.

Starting the reverse grid sprint race from seventh, Doohan made some solid moves throughout to make up two positions and secure a top five finish before finishing the feature race in sixth.

Despite completing some overtakes, including a bold move on Ayumu Iwasa early on and a fantastic move on Théo Pourchaire on lap 18, Doohan was unable to claim a podium finish – instead finishing sixth.

Doohan’s top 10 finishes saw him claim valuable points but he didn’t move too far up the standings, finishing the weekend 12th overall.

The FIA Formula 2 Championship returns for round seven at the Red Bull Ring on 1-2 July.

FIA Formula 3 Championship

Christian Mansell has fared the best out of the trio of Aussies contesting the FIA Formula 3 Championship, scoring a point in the feature race on Sunday.

It was a solid performance from the New South Welshman, who started the feature race in 16th after setting the exact same qualifying time as fellow Aussie Hugh Barter.

Mansell got plenty out of the Campos Racing car and charged through the field to snatch that final point by just over a second.

It was a brilliant response after a difficult Saturday where Mansell’s good work of making up seven positions in the sprint race was underdone by a collision, which saw him retire due to broken suspension.

Barter on the other hand, started the feature race in 15th but didn’t enjoy the same run as his compatriot, finishing 13th - a difficult result considering he finished 19th in Saturday’s Sprint race.

Tommy Smith unfortunately received a handful of penalties throughout the feature race, however still managed to make up a few positions to end up 23rd for the race – five places lower than his Sprint race finish of 18th.

Like Formula 2, the FIA Formula 3 Championship will resume next month at the Red Bull Ring on 1-2 July.
