Piszcyk leads Aussie F4 international charge

James Piszyck (pictured centre right) enjoyed a pole position and a race win over the weekend.
James Piszcyk has continued his rise in the British Formula 4 Championship, leaving the most recent round at the famous Silverstone Circuit with a maiden pole position and a climb up the standings.

As usual, there were three Aussies contesting the championship, with both Noah Lisle and Pat Heuzenroeder scoring points, however it was Piszcyk who enjoyed the best collection of results across the three races.

The South Australian’s solid weekend started with a thrilling Qualifying session where he secured pole position over Gabriel Stilp and William Macintyre by less than one tenth of a second.

Starting the opening race from fourth, Piszcyk continued to show good pace as he made up one place during the 10-lap race to secure his second top three for the season.

In the reverse-grid race, Piszcyk started from 21st on the grid and gained an impressive 11 spots throughout the race – the most of all drivers - finishing 10th overall.

Taking out the victory for the race was Lisle, who had made up an impressive amount of ground during the race after climbing from seventh to first – the victory being his third for the year.

However it was Piszcyk’s time to shine in the third race as he converted that pole position to the win. His second victory for the year saw him end the weekend in sixth place and just five points off Deagen Fairclough in fourth place overall.

Lisle ended the same race in 10th, which after a seventh place in the opening race of the weekend, saw him secure points in all three races for the first time this season.

As for Heuzenroeder, it was a more challenging weekend for him, with the youngster finishing ninth and eighth in the opening two races before placing 14th in the last outing.

There were also three Aussies competing in the ever-competitive Italian F4 Championship, which saw Ferrari Driver Academy driver James Wharton enjoy the best results of the trio in Monza.

Following a pair of P6s in Qualifying, Wharton dropped to ninth in the opening race but was elevated back to sixth after post-race penalties before securing consecutive fifth place finishes in the remaining two races – to hold onto third in the championship standings.

Gianmarco Pradel also produced three top-10 finishes that began with ninth in race one and improved to his best result of the weekend of seventh in race three, while Jack Beeton picked up his second top 10 for the year crossing the line in 10th in the same race.

Elsewhere in Europe, two Aussies were contesting the Spanish F4 Championship and they both had contrasting results, with Alex Ninovic getting his most consistent round of results of the season.

While he didn’t pick up his best result for the year, the New South Welshman made up places in every outing still managed to finish inside the top 10 in all three races for the first time this year, with an eighth placed finish either side of a seventh in the middle race.

Griffin Peebles
unfortunately didn’t have the most memorable of weekends despite finishing every race in the top 20, as he was unable to score points.

Across the Atlantic Ocean, Lewis Hodgson and Jesse Lacey were some of the top performers in the US Formula 4 Championship, which held its round at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington.

While Lacey finished higher on the standings, Hodgson produced better results with the New South Welshman claiming two podiums during the three races, while Lacey also finished in the top 10 for each race – his race one result of seventh the best of his weekend.
