The Motorsport Australia Tasmanian Circuit Racing Championship made its way to Symmons Plains Raceway over the weekend for the third round of its 2023 season.

Organised and promoted by the Light Car Club of Tasmania, seven  categories took to the track across Friday and Saturday for a collection of racing, regularities and supersprint

The categories taking part included the Beechy’s Towing HQ Holdens, Formula Vee, Improved Production and Banjos Bakery Historic Touring Cars, Sports Sedans and Bayview Tyre and Auto Sports GTA, B and C, Hyundai Excel’s and the usual regularity.

The event also hosted the second round of the Motorsport Australia Tasmanian Supersprint Championship, where competitors had five oppurtunies to post the fastest lap time of the weekend to be named the outright winner.

The Holden HQs kicked off the weekend's competitive action with their first of five races on Saturday afternoon, with Andrew Toth taking the win ahead of Phil Ashlin.

Ashlin would then take the win in races four and five, with the final race counting for double points to give him the outright win.

In the Formula Vee category, it was Jeremy Dyer coming out on top after taking victory in four of the five races - only falling in race one behind Michael Vaughan and second place outright runner Tim Tubb.

The Improved Production was split into two fields throughout and had three runners participating in each.

In the Over 2L class, Michael Symons came out on top in his BMW 125i with the most consistent results throughout, finishing ahead of Andrew Colquhoun’s Ford Falcon despite the latter winning the last two races – including race five which was worth double points.

The Under 2L class was quite the opposite, with Darryl Bennett taking the outright win in dominant fashion, winning all five races ahead of Gregory Hayes and Mary White.

A pair of Johnsons were the ones the beat in the combined Sports Sedans and Bayview Tyre and Auto Sports GTA, B and C category, firstly with Beau coming out victorious in both races one and two on Saturday.

But come Sunday, a DNF to Beau opened the door for Troy to take the following two wins before Stephen Noble joined the party with a victory in race four. Beau would return to the winners' table in race five to make it three race wins across the weekend.

Fielding the largest grid of the weekend, the Hyundai Excels also had three different winners in their five races with Jeremy Bennett having the upmost bragging rights with three race wins to his name.

Bennett won race one before finishing  third behind Charlie Parker and Jackson Shaw in second, with the top trio the same in race three with the exception of Shaw coming out on top.

Only two tenths of a second behind was Adrian Cassidy in his Holden Torana, edging out David Rowell’s Commodore by a further two-tenths, the latter rounding out the podium places as a result.

The regularity went right down to the wire with just one point the difference in winning and losing.

Claiming the most points of the round after hitting the most laps closest to a nominated lap time was Adam Prewer - the Honda Civic driver's 290 points just one better than Scott McMcCullagh and Brad Trenham - both of whom finished with 289 points.

The fourth round of the Motorsport Australia Tasmanian Circuit Racing Championship will take place at the Baskerville Raceway on 4-6 August.
