The Currowan State Forest in New South Wales will come alive this Saturday when The Rockstar Automotive Yadboro Rallysprint takes over.

Hosted by the Shoalhaven and Kiama Districts Auto Club, the clubman-level event will see competitors tackle 64 competitive kilometres over eight stages spread across day and night.

With the first car to get underway at 1:30pm AEST and the last car to finish the last special state at 9:30pm, the rallysprint is aimed at giving drivers and navigators a valuable opportunity to develop their skills across the day’s multiple stages.

As a clubman level event, the Rockstar Automotive Yadboro Rallysprint is also important as it offers newcomers a steppingstone into the sport and getting involved with rally.

Clerk of Course Jason Bassett was confident the event would provide entrants with a broad range of stages to help upskill was hoping the entry list would reach its maximum capacity of 25.

“It’s a chance for people to get behind the wheel in some dark conditions and give them variance in all aspects on the course,” Bassett said.

“We’re still looking for entrants and we’ll take entrants right up until 12:00pm on the morning of.

“And if someone needs to get their car scrutineered, we’ve got a scrutineer there from 11/11:30.

“The more people we can get, the better it is for our club.”

One competitor already entered in the event in Sean Casey was looking forward to using the event for some testing.

“We are looking to test the car out and try the new gear box we just fitted,” Casey said.

“The event is an intermediary for people who can’t yet do full rallies. It’s a good way to gain experience and get the car control without going to such big event.

“It’s a good steppingstone.”

The event is spectator-free but Shoalhaven and Kiama Districts Auto Club is encouraging those interested in competing to get in touch.

More information can be found on the club’s Facebook page.

The Yadboro Rally Sprint takes place along the Western Distributor between Bimberamala River and the Mares Hill Road intersection on Saturday 8 July.
