SA Motorkhana focusing on future of motorsport

The Motorsport Australia South Australia Motorkhana Championship resumes this weekend.
The Motorsport Australia South Australia Motorkhana Championship returns this weekend with its third round for the year – marking the midway point of what has been a terrific 2023 season.
Hosted by Hot Bricks, the Modified Mini Car Club of South Australia, the event will take place at Mallala Motorsport Park and will see 23 competitors tackle five tests across the day.
In addition to the state championship, the club will also be hosting a Come and Try Day for individuals looking to get into the sport.
The competition is also open to everyone over the age of 12 after the club saw an increase of teenage drivers in the previous years, with some events even seeing a quarter of their entry lists filled by juniors - proving that motorkhana continues to be an excellent way for young drivers to get their start in motorsport.
Despite motorkhanas welcoming an influx of youngsters, Competition Secretary Adrian Flynn, believed it was important to hold events like this to attract new drivers regardless of their age.
“We have a Come and Try day at every event, just in case, and we normally get a few people to turn out. Out of those few, some stick with it, some don’t, but it’s a great system where you can try motorkhana for a fraction of the price,” Flynn said.
“With that said, we have no age discrimination. I’m 60-years-old and I can sort of remember which way to go.
“It’s entry-level but some people have stuck at it for 50 years because it’s in their budget and it’s what they enjoy doing. Not everybody can go drive a Supercar.
“People also have fun, particularly if they don’t take it too seriously, and you learn a lot, so it’s a good place to start and it can lead to anything you want it to.”
Spectators are welcome to attend the event, with the action to begin from 8am and goes until 4pm ACST.
Round three of the Motorsport Australia SA Motorkhana Championship takes place on Sunday 16 July.
