Another class victory for Calan Williams sees the Australian move atop the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Gold Class standings after an impressive weekend of racing in Italy.
Williams and teammate Niklas Kruetten found themselves on the podium in both of their two races in Misano, the first being a second-place finish and 11th outright – the position they would then start from for race two.
The pair would then make no mistake in the second race, as the pair made up a place and went on to take out the class victory, resulting in the promotion to the top of the class standings.
Another Aussie featured in the round was Jordan Love, who didn't finish far behind Williams on both occasions in his Haupt Racing Team Mercedes AMG GT3, with a 12th place finish in race one and a 16th place finish in race two.
Unfortunately, the results weren't as promising in the Asian rendition of the Fanatec GT World Challenge, with Broc Feeney enduring a tough result in the Triple Eight JMR Mercedes AMG - his best result being 18th in race two.
Feeney and teammate Prince Jefri Ibrahim crossed the line in 22nd in the opening race, while fellow Aussies Andrew Macpherson and William Ben Porter would end up finishing in 26th, before improving to 23rd for the final outing.
Now turning our attention to Canada, it was a frustrating day at the office for Will Power in the NTT IndyCar Series after crossing the line in 14th place at the Honda Indy Toronto.
All was looking good for the Queenslander in the early stages of the weekend after making the Firestone Fast Six for the first time in a matter of weeks, starting the race from sixth place and finding himself fighting at the front of the pack throughout.
Unfortunately, a frustrating second half of the race didn’t go the 2022 Champions' way, falling outside of the top 10 as a result.
Meanwhile, Scott McLaughlin will be content with a sixth-place finish after leading for a vast majority of the race.
The Kiwi driver outlasted most of the grid on the alternate tire in hopes of an incident later on in the race to maintain track position into the closing stint, but it wasn’t to be.
Acting as a support category to the IndyCar series, Lochie Hughes and the USF2000 grid had two races of their own across the weekend, handing the Australian a mixed bag of results.
After starting the first race of the weekend in fifth, an unfortunate result followed after only seven laps of racing when he was forced to retire the car after contact with another driver.
The second and final race of the weekend proved more fortunate, having started in ninth, Hughes was able to make his way up to fourth before a safety car period allowed for a late move into third place, where he would eventually finish the race.
The race two podium salvaged some much-needed series points for Hughes, who currently sits in second place.
There was another Candian-Australian link in action last weekend, but this time it happened in Europe where Australian driver Andres Latorre Canon teamed up with Canadian driver Daniel Ali to finish 12th in the Le Mans Cup.
This was the first time the series had raced since early June, with Latorre Canon being the highest Aussie finisher ahead of Scott Andrews, Fraser Ross and George Nakas.
Andrews was the next best finisher in 20th alongside Gerald Graut in the #22 United Autosports entry, while a further place back was Ross and Nakas in the Graff Racing #8.
Last but most certainly not least, Taylor Gill enjoyed his second round of the 2023 FIA Rally Star program in Austria, where a top ten finish and third in class topped off what was overall a great weekend.
After picking up his maiden win at the Rally San Marino last time out, Gill was one of three Rally Star participants to finish in the top 10 overall, finishing three seconds behind Jose Abito Caparo and a further 13 seconds back from class winner Romet Jurgenson.
