Team Australia at the 2023 FIA Motorsport Games. The new Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship will also allow competitors to represent their country at an international event.
Motorsport Australia has opened expressions of interest for the upcoming inaugural Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship to be held in Malaysia later this year.
Representing Team Australia, competitors across several different categories will be selected to wear the famous ‘green and gold’ at the event to be held on 30 September – 1 October, 2023.
The regional Championships will see motorsport competitors from across the Asia Pacific region battle it out at the famous Sepang International Circuit against competitors representing their local ASN.
Motorsport Australia, together with Karting Australia, will enter the following categories, based on competitor interest:
- Esports (two participants, must be current Motorsport Australia Esports licence holders). Participants will need to enter an online qualifier and finish in the top 12 in order to be eligible to qualify for the finals at the Asia Pacific Esports Championship.
- Gymkhana (two participants, one male and one female. Preference given to top performers in recent Motorsport Australia Motorkhana Championship events)
- Rally regularity (driver and co-driver)
- Karting Slalom and Karting (competitors chosen by Karting Australia)

Competitors will be responsible for their own accommodation and travel to the event, with Motorsport Australia to provide a team uniform and small subsidy to cover entry fees and any other costs. In the rally discipline, competitors must also source their own vehicle, with Motorsport Australia able to provide some assistance in finding suitable options.
Motorsport Australia Director of Motorsport & Commercial Operations Michael Smith said the Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship will be a great opportunity for grassroots competitors to represent their country on the international stage.
“We’re pleased to see more international events being offered through the FIA for our grassroots competitors and those eager to showcase their skills against the best-of-the-best from our region,” Smith said.
“Any opportunity to compete at world class venue like Sepang International Circuit is also one that many competitors will be eager to experience.
“Esports is also rapidly growing here in Australia and this is yet another opportunity for those talented competitors to develop their skills and represent their country in an internationally recognised competition.
“With the biennial FIA Motorsport Games not being held this year, this is also a great opportunity for competitors to put their hand up and showcase their skills for potential opportunities when those Games return in 2024 and we consider the make-up of Team Australia for that event next year.”
