Motorsport Australia South Australia Khanacross Championship leader, Bradley Clements has outlasted his father and title rival Michael Clements in a thrilling weekend of action at Walky Park.
More than 35 of South Australia’s best Khanacross drivers came together for state championship at the popular Steinfeld track, which also hosted the third round of the local Walky Park Series.
Each competitor had the opportunity to show off their unique ability behind the wheel across multiple runs on both days, with multiple layouts providing a handful of challenges for those will all levels of experience.
But at the end of the day, it was Bradley Clements who would take the outright win, finishing 15 seconds ahead of his father, Michael.
The championship leader was fast out of the gates on Saturday morning, taking victory in the opening run in what was looming to be a three-horse race between the two Clements entries and Sam Humphries.
Three suddenly turned into two after the first four runs though, with Bradley and Michael alternating victories before a slight delay turned the momentum Michael’s way, which took a victory in the fifth run by more than seven seconds to lead at the end of Saturday’s action.
Despite holding a seven second lead, Michael’s lead began to shrink early into the second day, before Bradley eventually completed the comeback to takw the round victory.
In the end, Humphries would come home in third place almost a minute back – exemplifying the dominance shown by the Clements family throughout the event.
The battle for the remaining places in the top five came down to the wire, with Michael Stroh edging out Michael Stanford by just over a second.
Ending the G Class dominance inside the top 10 was Andrew Gleeson, who was impressive picked up sixth place outright and top honours in the MP2 class ahead Byron Morley, who finished in 12th outright.
After a top three finish last time out at Walky Park, Matt Henderson was unable to repeat his efforts and had to settle for seventh ahead of Class A winner Glen Campbell in eighth.
Rounding out the top 10 places were another two class winners, with Steven Leo taking out Class B and ninth overall, while Nick White was the driver to beat in Class E.
Other class winners across the board included Damien Wilson, who was nine seconds clear of Jason Sims in Class C, and Joshua Fields, who put in an impressive stint in the Junior category, dominating the rest of the field and two seconds clear of second place runner Cody Gleeson.
President of the Walkerville All Car Club, Bob Nason was thrilled with how the weekend played out and looked forward to the remainder of the Walky Park season.
“It was just an amazing weekend,” Nason said.
“Everybody I have spoken to said they had a great time; everything went really smoothly and everyone put in such a great amount of work behind the scenes.
“There were a lot of competitors camping in the area and we put on some food and had a great time even off the track, that’s what it’s all about.”
“It was pleasing to be able to run so many different variations of the tracks and get as many runs in as we could. I can't wait to see everyone out there again for the next round.
The fourth round of the Motorsport Australia South Australia Khanacross Championship will take place at the Mid Murray Motorplex on 2-3 September while the fourth round of the Walk Park Series will take place on 27 August.
