Peter Morley’s charge up the WA State Speed Series continued on the weekend as he secured back-to-back wins to move to second overall.

With a hugely competitive line-up of 49 competitors spread across 12 classes at Carco.com.au Raceway, Morley once again secured the top spot with a fastest lap time of 53.67 seconds, and just slotted above Andy Thomas and Jon Webb on the overall season standings.

The day’s main competition was made up of four Time Attack sessions, with Morley posting his best time in session one – his event-winning time ending up as a personal best in the process.

Finishing second was Webb, who despite finishing two seconds off Morley, left the event with a new personal best as his time of 55.7 seconds – his impressive performance seeing him solidify fourth on the series standings.

Rounding out the event podium almost five seconds off the top two competitors was Robin Mullett, however he was able to hold off the current series leader Bradley Scrivener by just four tenths of a second.

Just missing out on a top three, Scrivener maintained his lead at the top of the standings ahead of the final four rounds of the 2023 season.

Other class winners of course included Peter Morley for Formula Libre, Robin Mullet for Outright Sedan Over 4 Litres, and sixth place finisher Emranjeet Singh Malhi for Production Sports Cars Over 2 Litres.

The clubman win went to Chriss Sprigg, and Justin O’Hehir, who finished in seventh, topped the Tarmac Rally 4WD class.

Event organiser Phil Morley was pleased with how the event panned out.

“This series continues to grow, and this weekend was another example of how good it is,” Morley said.

“We had perfect weather conditions, strong competition and plenty of new officials coming on and running their first sprint event.

“It was great to see Peter and John both break PBs, especially John, who flew down from Exmouth to compete the night before to keep his title hopes alive.

230808_WAState“We’re certainly looking forward to the next one.”

Round 10 of the WA State Speed Series will take place at Carco.com.au Raceway on Sunday 1 October.
