After an exciting first round in April, the Motorsport Australia South Australian Rally Championship (SARC) is back this Saturday with an event that has shaped the state’s rally scene for almost 40 years.

Organised by the Walkerville All Cars Club, the Copyworld Walky 100 Rally marks round two of this year’s state championship, with competitors taking to Pfitzner Pioneer Memorial Oval in Eudunda to fight for more all-important points towards this year’s championship.

Returning to defend his spectacular round one win is 2021 and 2022 SARC champion Jamie Pohlner who, alongside co-driver Adam Brandford, fronts the 28-entry line-up.

“I’m looking forward to a lot of the day stages, not so much the night stages,” Pohlner said.

“Last year it came in very foggy at night which wasn’t ideal, but the day stages should be good. From what I’ve heard, the road surfaces sound good and the conditions are looking pretty good for us too.

“We’ve just fitted a new break package to the car, and we haven’t really had much time for testing, so it will be interesting to see how they handle. Might be few adjustments after the first stages in the morning.

“We’ve been lucky so far. We’ve had a pretty consistent car and been able to capitalise on the first event…but anything can happen in rally.

“Declan Dwyer is always fast, especially on the shire roads, so he’ll be the one to watch. I know Matthew Selley will be extremely fast in a 4WD. And there’s also David McDonough who’s fairly consistent, and Daren Herring who will be quick if he can find the pace.”

However, unlike last year’s event, which saw the competitive distance shortened due to weather, this year’s event will see new roads added to the course that have previously been unusable, allowing for an increase in competitive time, particularly for the event’s signature night stages.

These changes will see the competition reach almost 145 competitive kilometres, surpassing the event’s previous high of 140 kilometres in 2021.

Round two of the Motorsport Australia South Australian Rally Championship takes place at Pfitzner Pioneer Memorial Oval, Eudunda on Saturday 12 August.
