The penultimate round of this year’s Motorsport Australia Tasmanian Circuit Racing Championships (TCRC) was held at Symmons Plains Raceway on the weekend, with more than 75 competitors across eight categories in action.

Hosted by the Light Car Club of Tasmania, the categories taking part in the two-day state ranged from Formula Vee to Hyundai Excels, Supersprints, Racing and Sports Cars and the Tasmanian Regularity Cup.

Opening the round were the HQ Holdens, which saw Andrew Toth narrowly miss out on a clean sweep, having comfortably won four out of the five races.

Neville Rattray and Andy Bennett followed closely in second and third for the same four races, but neither won the remaining race as Peter Cameron took out top honours in the Ian Beechey Memorial handicap round.

While Toth didn’t quite achieve the clean sweep for his category, there were plenty of drivers who dominated their respective categories from start to finish.

In the Racing and Sports Cars category, Matthew Roberts secured a perfect weekend with all five wins ending up to nine seconds over his closest rivals, while Tim Mann’s clean sweep of the Sports Sedans and Bayview Tyre and Auto Sports GTA,B,C category came in similar fashion – both drivers also posting the fastest lap in each.

The final clean sweep for the weekend belonged to Andrew Colquhoun in the Historic Touring Cars, having finished ahead of Darryl Bennett.

While the remaining categories didn’t see the same clean sweeps from the competitors, the results remained quite close, with victories shared amongst a range of different drivers in each category.

For the Hyundai Excels, it was Jeremy Bennett who picked up the most wins across the weekend with three, while Mason Kelly enjoyed two for himself – the two involved in extremely close battles in every outing.

Formula Vee delivered even closer competition between its two frontrunners Adam Prewer and Jeremy Dyer, With Prewer getting the edge by the end of the weekend with three wins.

Outside of the racing categories, Holden Commodore driver Kurt Jurgensen enjoyed top honours in the Supersprint having been the only driver in the field to post a lap under one minute – his time of 57.1154 seconds more than three seconds faster than the next best driver in Adrian Cassidy.

Bradley Trenham closed out the first trial with an almost perfect score of 49, while Jeffrey Hindle benefited from the double points in the fifth run to finish with 98 points.

However, it was Stephen Olive who finished on top in the end, with three perfect scores of 50 across trials two, three and four.
