Sherrin Rental’s Grant Sherrin is relishing the opportunity to run with the GT4 entries after a clean sweep of race wins at Sandown International Raceway last weekend.  

The 42-year-old was barely headed across four Mobil 1 Australian Production Car Series races at the popular Victorian circuit, first claiming an emphatic pole position on Friday afternoon before eventually taking round honours ahead of Iain Sherrin and the duo of Coleby Cowham and Lindsay Kearns.

This year sees the Series running alongside the Monochrome GT4 Australia Series, resulting in an interesting mix of cars on the grid.

While Sherrin was in a class of his own for the entirety of the weekend in Production Cars, his biggest challenges came when battling the frontrunning GT4 entries – where he enjoyed great battles with Mark Griffith and Steve Jukes for outright podium positions on multiple occasions. 

In the end, the Queenslander found himself with three outright third place finishes, a feat no APC driver has completed this year.  

Sherrin was thrilled with the weekend’s performance and hopes to be able to match it with the GT4 competitors in future rounds. 

“It was a good weekend for us, getting pole position and winning all four of the races is really good,” Sherrin said.

“It felt great to run up with the GT4s, we have our sights on it in the team to mix it with them, so we try and get the car setup-wise to be competitive, and at certain tracks we are able to do that.

“It was pretty special for the whole team to find ourselves on the outright podium, for us to get there and finish third was amazing.  

“We had some good battles all weekend long with Mark Griffith and Steve Jukes, they were strong down either end and I was strong on the straights, we all used the advantages we had and it was good, close and fair racing.”

Throughout most of 2023, Sherrin has suffered a series of bad luck tracking all the way back to the Sydney Motorsport Park round in June where the first of many poorly timed safety car interventions and on-track incidents halted his progress in the new BMW F82 M4.  

But while some things remain out of his control, Sherrin was confident the car has the pace to repeat the successful results last weekend.

“We have been debuting the car this year, it has always been quick but we have had certain things go against us,” Sherrin explained.

“It went well at Phillip Island, Sydney Motorsport Park we didn’t have a good round with a safety car going against us and setup issues, Queensland Raceway there were other issues again, but finally, everything went our way at Sandown.

“I'm comfortable in the car, the pace has been there all season long so I am confident going into the next round.”

The combined Mobil 1 Australian Production Cars and Monochrome GT4 Australia will return to the track at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park (The Bend) as part of the Shannons Trophy Series on 13-15 October.
