Just a fortnight after their last rally in Slovenia, Australians Taylor Gill and Daniel Brkic are taking to Estonia this weekend for the fourth event in this year’s FIA Rally Star Training Season.

The Saaremaa Rally will see the Australian duo take on the country’s fast-paced gravel roads in a Ford Fiesta Rally3, marking for a return to a more familiar gravel surface after two consecutive tarmac events.

The pair will also be aided by the short turnaround between this event and the one prior, with only two weeks between events allowing for more consistency from the team.

“The 10-week break between Austria and Slovenia felt like ages out of the car, so it is great to be able to be competing again in such a short turnaround,” Gill said.

“So much of rallying is about time in the car, so it is critical that we make the most of the constant run of events to finish the season.

Gill and Brkic will start 23rd on the road, but as the 2nd seed behind Estonian pilot Romet Jürgenson. They will also share the stages with 2019 FIA World Rally Champion Ott Tänak, who leads the field aboard the faster Rally2 specification Ford Fiesta.

“I’m looking forward to having a push on the fast roads – we went to WRC Rally Estonia earlier in the year, so we have somewhat of an idea of what to expect, but again, it is an event like nothing we’ve ever done, so I expect to learn a lot,” Gill said.

“To have Ott Tanak compete in the same rally will give us a great benchmark of where we currently stand.

“While we are in different cars, we can do some calculations at the end of the event and see how far off we are speed-wise.”
