Heuzenroeder to race GB3 for rest of 2023

Tuesday 10 October, 2023
Patrick Heuzenroeder will race GB3 for two rounds in 2023.
After a solid British F4 Championship debut season, young Aussie Patrick Heuzenroeder has secured a seat in the GB3 Championship for the remainder of the 2023 season.

Heuzenroeder will complete the final two rounds of the championship’s season at Zandvoort and Donington Park for Elite Motorsport, joining GB3 race-winners McKenzy Cresswell and Oliver Stewart at the British outfit.

Although 2023 has been his first year in Formula 4, the young New South Welshman enjoyed a successful test session in a GB3 car earlier in the year, and enters the round having gained a wealth of experience at British circuits.

“After a year in British F4 learning the tracks and the whole new world, which is motorsport in the UK, when the offer to take part in GB3 at Zandvoort arose, it seemed a great opportunity,” Heuzenroeder said.

“I had the chance to do one test day in a GB3 car earlier in the year, and after a few laps of adapting to the speed and downforce, I just loved it.

“That day went really well and I’m hopeful I can bring some of that experience to help me get up to speed quickly in the Netherlands, but Zandvoort is obviously a very different and totally new track for me.

“The majority of other drivers have been in these cars all year and many will have tested there, so I’m realistic about my expectations this weekend.

“I’m sure the experience will help form some decisions I will need to make about 2024 including whether GB3 might be the right step for me.

“With the F4 season finishing only last weekend, I’m very fortunate to have the chance to get back in a race car and I’m very grateful to Elite Motorsport for the opportunity.”

Having first started karting in 2019 when he was 13-years-old, Heuzenroeder enjoyed a steady rise through the Karting Australia ranks – having had three years in karting before switching to cars in 2022 and finishing third in the Motorsport Australia NSW Formula Ford Championship.

His first attempts in a Formula 4 car came late last year, when he was selected as one of 24 drivers to attend the 2022 Ferrari Driver Academy (FDA) Asia Pacific and Oceania Selection Program at Sepang International Circuit.

The Aussie teenager then made it through to the final six, but just missed out on selection for the FDA Scouting World Finals in Italy – however, he was presented the opportunity to join Phynsis by Argenti for this year’s British F4 Championship.

While he was unable to score as many points as he would have liked, Heuzenroeder still picked up a number of top-10 finishes, with a highlight being a maiden podium.

His form at British F4 was good enough for Elite Motorsport to offer him a place for the final two rounds of the season.

“We are pleased to announce Pat joining us for Zandvoort and the Donington Park rounds,” Elite Motorsport Team Owner & Manager Eddie Ives said.

“We’re already impressed with his commitment and his work ethic.

“It’s a big ask to jump up to GB3 with minimal testing but I’m confident he’ll adapt well and we are fully behind his debut in the championship.”

Heuzenroeder will join fellow Australian Costa Toparis in the championship for the final two events, with the penultimate round of the 2023 GB3 Championship taking place this weekend at Zandvoort Circuit in the Netherlands.
