The Shannons Trophy Series’ final round of the year gets underway this weekend with Shell V-Power Motorsport Park to host the highly anticipated season finale.
More than 20 hours of track action is pencilled in for the three-day event with seven categories making up the bumper schedule – six of which are national series.
Coverage of the event will feature on Sunday via 7plus and Motorsport Australia’s YouTube channel.
Making up the seven categories will be a combination of new and old, with the returning categories including MARC Cars Australia, the Workhorse Radical Cup Australia, Excels and the combined Mobil 1 Australian Production Cars (APC) and Monochrome GT4 Australia Series.
Joining the regular Shannons Trophy Series categories for the first time this year will be the Australian Formula Ford Series, Australian Prototype Series and the ever-popular Porsche Michelin Sprint Challenge Australia.
The one-make Porsche series boasts the largest field of the seven categories with 28 cars spread across three classes to tackle its three races.
Many of the title contenders are entered for the round, with the likes of New Zealanders Marco Giltrap and Zac Stitchbury and Queenslanders Aron Shields, Oscar Targett and Nash Morris all to be fighting towards the front of the field.
Another new category will welcome the next biggest field with the Australian Formula Ford Series also having three races across the weekend – their 21-car entry list headlined by series leader Matt Hillyer, while Zak Lobko and Jake Santalucia will continue their intriguing battle for second.
Just shy of 20 entries make up the combined APC and GT4 series, however the 19-car field will have the most races across the board with four one-hour outings making up its schedule.
Featuring on the entry list will be a long list of stars, including GT4 leader Shane Smollen and APC veterans Iain and Grant Sherrin. A new entry will also draw plenty of interest with Australian motorsport Hall of Famer John Bowe beginning his 2023 campaign with Jacob Lawrence.
The Workhorse Radical Cup Australia will stick with its traditional format of two 50-minute races, one of each to take place on both Saturday and Sunday.
Fans of the series will be keeping a close eye on the entertaining title fight, which is led by rookie Alex Gardner and includes Elliot Schutte.
Gardner won’t just be entered in the Radicals either, with the young gun one of a few drivers cross-entered in the Australian Prototype Series.
The teenager will be up against a handful of talented Prototype regulars for the category’s three 25-minute races, with JP Drake, Jason Makris and Phil Hughes all likely to be battling for top honours.
Rounding out the list of categories will be the eight-car MARC Cars and the nine-car Circuit Excels SA, both with three races across the weekend.

In addition to the Shannons Trophy Series, the Bosch Motorsport Australia Rally Championship (ARC) will also be at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park during multiple points across the weekend.
Serving as the penultimate round of the season, the PowerPlay Adelaide Hills Rally will have multiple stages held in and around the circuit.
Director of Motorsport and Commercial Operations Michael Smith was looking forward to the Shannons Trophy Series season finale.
“The Shannons Trophy Series has been quite the hit in 2023 and we have no doubt that it will wrap up on a high this weekend at the South Australian world-class circuit,” Smith said.
“To have the biggest list of categories making the final round, most of which are regular national categories, as well as the ARC sharing the spotlight, is a fantastic way to end the season.
“I highly encourage South Australian race fans to make their way out to Shell V-Power Motorsport Park and enjoy the show put on some of the best drivers in the country – both on bitumen and on gravel.”
Spectating for the Shannons Trophy Series, and PowerPlay Adelaide Hills Rally, is free of charge. Fans will be able to enjoy Sunday’s action live and free via 7plus.
The Sunday broadcast will begin just in time for race two of the Australian Prototype Series at 9am ACDT, and will run through to the conclusion of the third race of MARC Cars Australia at 5pm ACDT.
Fans can also watch the action unfold via Motorsport Australia’s YouTube channel, Blend Line TV and the Shannons Trophy Series Facebook.
The third and final round of Shannons Trophy Series will take place at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park on 13-15 October.
