This weekend's Marque Sports Car Association (MSCA) Super Sprint will be at full capacity when it heads to Sandown International Raceway for the eighth and final round of its 2023 season.  

More than 120 competitors have registered to take part in the mammoth event, with a great range of vehicles on show for everyone involved in the event, which will also see the MG Car Club of Victoria also hosting a round of its internal series.

Each competitor will take to the track for three separate 30-minute sessions around the three-kilometre anti-clockwise circuit, with the driver having clocked the fastest time by the conclusion of Sunday’s action crowned the winner of the event.  

While the race for outright honours is expected to be as wide open as ever, entrants will also be divided into respective vehicle classes where they will battle it out for further individual glory.

These classes include Modern, Classic, Clubman, Electric and Hybrid as well as Race Spec – with each to further categorise by engine size.

There will also be a Regularity class, where competitors will be rewarded for consistency across the board rather than outright pace compared to those around them.

This year, competitors will also compete for the Mark Rae Challenge, which honours the late Mark Rae after the well-renowned MSCA competition-secretary passed away earlier this year.  

The challenge will see class competitors secure a combined points tally across the day, with the highest pointscore at the conclusion of the event to be deemed the winner of the special competition.  

The event will also pay its respects to the Thatcher family and the MG Car Club with the unfortunate loss of Kaye Thatcher in recent weeks.  

“We have got a great entry list with us, and the MG Car Club we will be at full capacity which is fantastic to see,” MSCA President, Bruce Astbury said.  

“We have got some class and overall categories going right down to the wire, but in MSCA culture, we don’t get hung up on the trophy, it's about participation and enjoying the community and having a great time.  

“There will be a great diversity of cars, there will be a lot of traditional type cars, including modern Lotus, BMW, Porsche’s - it's something for everyone.  

“Everyone is pretty excited to get out on track. We welcome people to come down and have a look, Sandown is local, and the Ford Performance Club will be putting on a BBQ so it will have a festive feel to it.  

“There will be a parade lap at lunchtime to honour Mark Rae, where MSCA regulars will have an opportunity to remember Mark.  

“Our thoughts are also with the Thatcher family and the MG Car Club with the loss of Kaye Thatcher last week, who was involved in a tragic car accident.”

The competition will get underway from 9am AEDT and will run right through to the end of on-track proceedings by 6pm AEDT, with family-friendly hours providing a perfect opportunity for spectators and motorsport-loving families to make their way to Springvale for what is certain to be a fantastic day of on-track action.  

The event will also be a great build-up for this year's Motorsport Australia Victorian SuperSprint Championship, which will be a one-round event taking place later this year and will be hosted by the Phillip Island Auto Racing Club.  

The MSCA will also host a ‘Come and Try’ day at Phillip Island in December, where aspiring circuit drivers are encouraged to sign up for a rare opportunity to complete some laps around the world-famous circuit.

The final round of the MSCA Super Sprint will take place at Sandown International Raceway on 22 October.
