The Pakenham Auto Club has been one of the first clubs around the country to run an event for 2024, with its Khanacross Test & Tune proving a big success.
Taking place at the club’s headquarters in the Shire of Cardinia, 14 participants took part in the non-competitive khanacross where they enjoyed 10 runs along the 500-metre course.
While there wasn’t a huge turnout of competitors, it was still a successful outing as many of the participants enjoyed some valuable seat time behind the wheel.
Clerk of Course Nick Wright was pleased with how the event ran and the number of teenagers getting their first opportunity in a car.
“We had a lot of young people and some fairly new starters, who all improved over the course of the day which was excellent to see.
“Of course, there were some standout performers throughout the day but I think one of the most impressive results from the day was our former president Anthony Franks getting beat by his 14-year-old son, which added some entertainment to the event.
“Although it had been our first time running an event in January in a while, I think it’s a good idea as it gives people a chance for seat time. So for us, we didn’t get a massive field, but we got an adequate one.
“I would also like to acknowledge the hard working volunteer officials, many of whom attended a working bee ahead of the event and did a wonderful job in keeping the event running smoothly.”
“Finally, the event was not only successful from a running point of view, but we also got to see our most recent renovation – the coursed draining system in action – which after heavy rains over the past few weeks, worked quite a treat.”
