Beeton tops Aussie charge in Dubai

Jack Beeton enjoyed his best weekend in the Formula 4 UAE Championship season in the category’s first visit to the Dubai Autodrome for the year.

Having had a rough weekend in the championship’s most recent round, Beeton bounced back in style, qualifying in P11 and charging up the order in the opening race to finish P6.

The Queenslander replicated his efforts in the second race, only this time he went from seventh place to third, securing his second podium for the season.

While he was unable to climb the order in the third and final race, starting and finishing in P12, it was still a productive weekend for Beeton, who ended the round eighth in the standings.

Unfortunately Beeton was the only Aussie to score points in the Championship, with AGI Sport teammate Nicolas Stati finishing 19th in the opening race and P18 in the second and third race.

Kamal Mrad’s best effort came in the first race after the PHM AIX Racing driver finished up 14th overall before dropping to 19th in the second race. The young New South Welshman then wrapped up his weekend with P15.

The Formula 4 UAE Championship’s parent series, the Formula Regional Middle East Championship was also in Dubai, with James Wharton and Costa Toparis both in action.

Wharton fared better of the two, however a cruel technical blow early in the weekend meant he was forced to play catch for the majority of the weekend.

The Victorian’s mechanical dramas prevented him from finishing the opening race, but a mighty effort in the second race saw the teenager charge his way up the field to P12 having started 16 places lower.

Wharton then made even more ground in the final race of the round to finish fifth and score valuable points towards his championship total, however his opening race drama saw him drop down the order to eighth.

As for Toparis, the New South Welshman missed on scoring points in all three races but managed to pick up his two best finishes from the round, P12 in the opening race and P14 in the second, before dropping to 21st in the final race.

Also running at the Autodrome over the weekend was the 4 Hours of Dubai, where four Aussies took part in the third round of the 2023/2024 Asian Le Mans Series.

Enjoying the best result of the four Aussies was John Corbett, who finished fourth in the LMP3 class and 15th overall.

An all-Australian duo of Fraser Ross and George Nakas were also in the LMP3 class, but the new GG Classic Cars entry finished 31st overall and fifth in class – a number of places higher than when they started.

The final Australian in the endurance race was Jordan Love, who finished fifth in the GT class alongside Triple Eight Racing teammates Prince Jefri Ibrahim and Luca Stolz.

It’s back-to-back weekends for all three categories, with Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi to host the penultimate round both the F4 and Regional Championship, and a Asian Le Mans double-header on 9-11 February.
