The first of the official Motorsport Australia State Awards has taken place with South Australia and the Northern Territory celebrating their champions of 2023.

Held via an online presentation and hosted by Cameron van den Dungen, the SA/NT State Awards acknowledged almost 100 individuals for their efforts both and on the track.

For the champions of 2023, every winner was featured in the presentation, including khanacross and autocross champion Bradley Clements, rally champion David McDonough and Circuit Excel winner Joel Johnson, as well as the many class winners from each state championship and series.

While the competitors themselves received their deserved recognition, so did a collection of volunteer officials and administrators for their contributions towards the sport.

Named as the 2023 SA/NT Official of the Year was Izarizi Singe, a well-respected official who possesses an endless amount of energy and presence at events, as well as having the ability to organise people at each event.

Singe was also one of five dedicated officials to receive an award for dedication towards each discipline, with the others being Sonya Flynn (Auto Test), Rob Hankinson (Speed) Deborah Squires (Circuit) and Ray Henry (Off Road)

Like Singe, Henry was recognised on multiple occasions and was named as the recipient of one of the most prestigious awards, the NT Motorsport Person of the Year, which he received at the Motorsport NT Awards earlier this month.

Also receiving special acknowledgement at both the Motorsport NT Awards Ceremony and Motorsport Australia SA/NT State Awards were Rossie Johnson, Laurie Feehan and Ross Page, with Johnson picking up the esteemed Future Star Award for his strong season in the V8 SuperUte Series.

Feehan was one of three individuals named as Service Stars, with the others being Keith Williamson and Ivar Stanelis, while there were seven different Service Winners in addition to Page, with those being Peter and Sue South, Graham Church, Ray McGuiness, Bruce Morisset, David Langfield and Mark Jacobs.

Car Clubs were also honoured during the presentation, with five celebrating achievement major milestones last year. Both the Marque Sports Car Association of SA and Modified Mini Car Club of SA made it to 50 years in 2023, while the Darwin Commodore Club, Torana Motorsport Club of SA and South Australia 86BRZ Adrenaline all celebrated 10 years.

The final award from the evening is the Event of the Year, which saw the highly successful Adelaide Motorsport Festival named as the winner.

The event has recently established itself as one of the biggest in the country, and with a handful of iconic cars and drivers in action and on display, it serves as the perfect predecessor for the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in Victoria.

The next state awards are the Tasmanian Awards on Saturday 24 February, which can be viewed via the Motorsport Australia’s YouTube channel or via the website.
