The Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit held one of the country’s most popular motorsport events on the weekend, with the world-renowned Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motorsport taking over the famous circuit.

Celebrating classic and historic vehicles of all kinds, the Victorian Historic Racing Register (VHRR) organised event saw more than 270 competitors across more than 10 categories in action.

However, while there were plenty of the competitors spread across a range of categories, it was the quality of the cars that featured throughout – with fans of all tastes and ages catered to across the three days.

From a competition point of view, each category put on a show for the crowd, with one of the biggest fields belonging to the Regularity, which had an eclectic mix of cars amongst its 50 entrants.

Within the four regularity events, there were four different drivers who topped the score sheets, one of those being Daniel Brazdil, who claimed the overall win after scoring 158 points in total.

The Datsun Bluebird driver finished the weekend just 12 points ahead of the second placed Andrew Stuchbery, who was highly consistent across the whole weekend.

Terry Lawlor dominated Group S, steering his Shelby American Mustang to four wins, with Datsun 280Z driver Brett Smith finishing behind the New South Welshman in each of those four races.

Like Laylor, Nicholas Bennett was just too good for the combined Groups M,O Sports and Racing, Formula Junior & Invited category - storming home to a handful of comfortable victories aboard his Elfin TC-W 600.

With the event hosting both drivers from Australian and those across the Tasman Sea, it was a New Zealander in Roger Williams who won the Q & R Sports round overall after securing four race wins in his slick Mclaren M8/F.

There were also clean sweeps Historic Touring Cars under 2L and Formula Ford, with South Australian Joshua Axford dominating the Historic Touring Cars in his Ford Escort and Nicholas McBride the Formula Fords.

Martin Wagg came close to securing a clean sweep of wins himself in the 5L Touring Cars Super Sprint, after the Eggleston Motorsport driver guided his Holden V to four consecutive wins.

It was a similar situation in the Groups J,K,Lb and Invited Formula Vee class, with Nicholas McDonald winning four of the five races outright, but retired in the penultimate race, handing Samantha Dymond the race four win as a result.

Multiple winners in the combined Group C and X class, with West Australian driver Jonathan Webb ending the weekend with a handful of wins and podiums. Other drivers to win a race including Steven Richards in his Nissan Skyline and Ford Sierra Cosworth George Miedecke.

Behind the wheel of a Nissan Bluebird, Brian Henderson was the pick of the bunch in the C class, as he took four wins over the weekend, while Codie Banks won the opening three races outright of combined Q&R Racing, F5000, F1 and Indy Cars & Invited.

West Australian Paul Stubber guided his Chevrolet Camaro to a number of wins in the Historic Touring Cars over 2L class, beating some big names along the way.

He wasn't the only winner though, with fellow West Australian Chevrolet Camaro driver, Aldo De Paoli taking out a one-second race three win.

In addition to the on-track action, there were thousands of vehicles on display courtesy of car clubs, with a range of vehicle marques covered throughout.
