The Country Roads Board Car Club
The Country Roads Board Car Club is one of many proud Motorsport Australia affiliated car clubs.

With 50 dedicated members focused on keeping the iconic Toyota Landcruiser relevant to the general population, the club also has ties to VicRoads.

The club also has a rich history and close camaraderie providing the fuel that has kept it going strong for more than 50 years – despite facing some adversity and identity changes along the way,

The club originally started out with rally cars before transitioning to racing cars where many of the members would compete in motorkhanas and other small events.

In recent years though, it has since turned its focus to club registered cars and completing social runs and monthly meetings.

While the iconic Landcruiser is the most popular car owned amongst its members, there are a range of other off road cars, with the frequent social events a perfect opportunity for friends to just catch up and share their joy for their cars.

With that said, as the next generation of members start to come through, a return to racing could be on the cards.

“We do cruises, social golf days and all that sort of stuff,” club member, Rob Fry said.

“There are a couple of guys still doing the club events, but you know, our focus is mainly just monthly meetings to catch up with old mates.

“Most of our social runs are usually made up of up to 10 cars. We are pretty small by nature, but it's a tight knit group. Most of our members have been members for more than 20 years, so it's pretty much how we keep going.

“A lot of our guys stopped racing when they had kids, but now their kids are driving, so the old race cars are slowly getting pulled out of the sheds and rebuilt, which means they could back out there.

“Everyone's been in it forever. We are all good mates and watch our kids grow up, so for us, our passion is just keeping all these old cars relevant and on the road.”

240324As for what the club’s biggest event for its annual calendar is, there is no looking past the Formula 1 Rolex Australian Grand Prix.

“We have been doing this event for about seven years now,” Fry added.

“The club has been through a few different names, but we have been the Country Road Club for the last four years and we love coming here.

“The Australian Grand Prix is definitely the biggest event of the year for us. It’s the most public event due to the huge attendance, and because of the cars we have on show, we often get a lot of attention.

“There is a big benefit to show our cars off. Everyone just loves the old Landcruiser. Whether they know someone who had one or had one themselves – they are just an iconic car.”
