Reigning Battery World Aussie Racing Super Series winner Joel Heinrich has continued his strong start to the 2024 season, picking up a second consecutive round victory.
With the series holding its second round of the season at Queensland Raceway, Heinrich proved too strong for the field across the weekend with two wins out of the four races.
Starting off with the fastest time in Qualifying, the South Australian then converted his pole position into the race victory after a dramatic opening outing, which finished under the safety car.
While he began with a race win, it didn’t come easy as runner-up Kody Garland led multiple times before Heinrich wrestled back the lead before the end of the safety car.
He then finished off the second round of the season with a victory in race four, leading Kyle Ensbey and Reece Chapman to the chequered flag in a drama-free outing.
Once again, Garland had found himself leading the race but lost the position again to Heinrich before dropping down to fourth place.
Garland did enjoy some success over the weekend though, comfortably winning the round’s second race over Heinrich and Brandon Madden, who lost ground on the winner after being occupied in an intense battle for the minor podium places themselves.
Taking out third penultimate race of the weekend was Chapman, who finished ahead of Madden and Ensbey.
Having had mechanical dramas in the opening race before charging up the field in the next, Chapman managed to work his way into the lead after taking advantage of a safety car period to complete a remarkable recovery run.
It was a much different story in the series’ three Cups, as each winner dominated their classes to pick up clean sweeps.
Taking out the Masters Cup was Kent Quinn and Scott Dornan won the Gold Cup, while Mason Harvey won the Rookie Cup.
The next round of the Battery World Aussie Racing Super Series will be at Carco.com.au Raceway as part of the Repco Supercars Championship’s Perth SuperSprint on 17-19 May.
