The Western District Car Club (WDCC) held its highly anticipated Women’s Introduction to Motorsport Program over the weekend with 20 participants getting a unique intro to the sport.

Taking place at the Geelong Motorsports Complex in Avalon on Mother’s Day, the women completed a number of activities that helped them build skills around braking and manoeuvrability, before putting their new talents on show with some motorkhana tests.

The participants were supported by volunteers boasting lots of experience in the sport as club members, officials and competitors in motorkhana, autocross, off road and rally.

One of the more notable coaches on hand were Junior Bosch Motorsport Australia Rally Championship (ARC) Cup Champions, Molly Spalding and Matt Dillon, with participants getting the chance to experience a passenger ride alongside Molly at the wheel.

The Western District Car Club is one of the first Motorsport Australia affiliated clubs to deliver the Women’s Introduction to Motorsport program, further demonstrating its commitment to growing grassroots motorsport and providing inclusive opportunities for people to participate in the sport.

As the event fittingly took place on Mother’s Day, one of the more unique guests was Charlotte, who brought her mother, Naomi, along to participate as a Mother’s Day surprise.

While Naomi was awarded as the most consistent throughout the day, Charlotte herself proved to be one of the best - taking home the junior award in the morning session and stunning everyone with how well she took to driving having never previously driven before.

“It was really fun, I really enjoyed it, I got better confidence in the car and even though I've never driven a car I got to go really fast,” Charlotte said.

“I didn’t have just one favourite part of the event, I loved the whole day and I will 100 per cent come again if I can.

“I would recommend it a lot because even if you don't want to get into racing you get a lot of confidence in the car and it's really fun.”
