Cameron Waters has returned to the top step of the podium, securing a race win in Sunday’s Bosch Power Tools Perth SuperSprint.

While Waters didn’t cross the line first, a post-race penalty to Saturday’s race winner Chaz Mostert saw Waters promoted to first once the cars had been shown the chequered flag.

Mostert copped his five-second penalty for an unsafe release earlier in the race as teams completed their pit stops, ultimately ending his hopes of back-to-back race wins.

Mostert wasn’t the only one who caught the eye of the race stewards, with a number of penalties issued during the race.

That included a five-second penalty for Championship leader Will Brown for a driving infringement in the closing stages of the race. Ultimately though, that penalty wouldn’t impact the race result with Brown finishing in third thanks to a six-second gap to fourth place finisher Will Davison.

Waters was understandably elated to return to the winner’s circle after securing pole position earlier in the day.

“It’s awesome to get a few trophies this weekend and get the win in that race,” Waters said.

“We had really good car speed, kept our head down and we had a really fast car at the end there.

“I can’t thank everyone at the team enough for grinding away this year. It’s been a hard slog, we win and lose together and I wouldn’t want to be with any other team, they’re awesome.”

Brown continues to hold the lead in the Championship points battle, a solid weekend for the Red Bull pilot.

Supercars now head north for the iconic Betr Darwin Triple Crown on 14-16 June at Hidden Valley Raceway in the Northern Territory.
