The Gold Coast Tweed Motorsporting Club (GCTMC) will host a special inaugural event early next month targeted at growing female participation in motorsport.
To be known as the Buccini Transport “Yeah The Girls” (YTG) Khanacross, the all-woman competition will take place at the club’s khanacross grounds in Tamborine in the Gold Coast.
A healthy field of 37 competitors have already entered the event, with 18 of the registered participants to experience a khanacross for the first time, while 11 are junior competitors. There are also a handful of seasoned rally drivers who will contest the event in their rally cars – making them instant favourites to win the event.
And although the event is based in the Gold Coast, it has already attracted a number of entrants from outside Queensland, with several competitors hailing from Alice Springs, Canberra, and Sydney.
Over the course of the event, competitors will have eight timed runs on a grass surface with first timers to receive special coaching and guidance throughout the event.
In addition to the competition itself, there will be plenty of activations to keep the whole family entertained, including a jumping castle and face painting for children.
Event Coordinator Glenn Brinkman was looking forward to the event and hopefully growing the sport.
“Building on the ongoing success of the oversubscribed Baden Civil South East Queensland Khanacross series, the GCTMC has taken a bold step forward by introducing an event exclusively for women,” Brinkman said.
“This initiative was inspired by the substantial and growing female participation in our regular Khanacross events, showcasing the passion and talent of female drivers.
“It’s important to have events like this taking place so we can inspire more women to get in the sport and with the club have already seen a huge rise in participation, I have no doubt this event will do the same.
“It’s fantastic to already have so many entrants registered for the event, and I am confident we can get some more.”
There has been plenty of support for the event outside of a participation point of view, with Motorsport Australia and a number of other organisations getting behind the event.
The club has also pledged all profits be be donated to Endometriosis Australia, a charity dedicated to raising awareness and funding research for the significant health issue.
“We are really pleased to have already garnered support from numerous businesses with strong ties to the club and the rallying community in Queensland,” Brinkman added.
“On behalf of the GTCMC, I would like to thank Buccini Transport, Virtual Security Guard, APX Suspension, Kickass Products, Pedders Suspension & Brakes-Murwillumbah, Lucky Country Leisure Parks, Motorsport Australia and many more for their invaluable contributions.
“We are also really thrilled to be able dedicating this event to Endometriosis Australia and I encourage anyone who attends to consider donating to this worthy cause.”
