Cameron Hill has given his stamp of approval on the revamped One Raceway, with the Supercars driver the first to test the new track.
Formerly known as Wakefield Park Raceway, the 2.2km iconic regional track closed its doors in 2022, with new owners reinvigorating the site.
A Canberra local, Hill welcomed the return of the venue that hosted the final round of the Formula Ford Series when he took his 2015 title.
Hill was able to reacquaint himself with the track now owned by Steve Shelley, testing the circuit in a current-spec Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Type 992.
“It's just incredible the work that has been done by Steve and his team here at One Raceway,” said Hill.
“It was such a shame when we lost this track. But it’s back and it's really unreal. I can't wait to sort of see the full finished product.”
The refreshed Goulburn track will soon re-open with a brand-new pit complex and administration facilities.
One Raceway will also boast newly profiled bank corners at the east and west ends of the track, as well as a new track layout that will allow racing in both directions, subject to a Motorsport Australia track licence.
“The track surface is all brand-new, and it's that nice, grippy tarmac that we all love,” Hill said.
“The last corner, I think it would get a lot of people's attention as well. There's some serious banking on it.
“And it’s a great initiative that the track actually runs the opposite direction also. This will really give drivers, teams and spectators a totally different experience each time they come here.”
The circuit is due to open in early October, with landscaping and the addition of ripple strips the last elements required to make One Raceway race ready, along with track inspections from Motorsport Australia’s dedicated track safety team.
“For a professional driver, One Raceway is at a high standard, and great that it’s pretty close to my hometown, but I'm just as interested in our amateur drivers, or drive days, or ride day type people too. It's really going to suit the way they go about their motorsport,” Hill added.
“I think this track is definitely going to cater to everyone from high-level and state and national level events, all the way down to your track day enthusiast – both cars and bikes.”
