FIA Motorsport Games: Friday Wrap

The FIA Motorsport Games has completed its first full day of running for 2024, with all members of Team Australia competing in their respective categories.

Here's how our Aussies faired across multiple competitions in Valencia, Spain on Friday 25 October.

Esports GT 
Philippa Boquida led the way in Quarter Final 3 after taking Pole Position earlier in the event, however, an incident with the driver from Team Morocco midway through the race resulted in Boquida dropping down a place. The Moroccan driver was handed a penalty as a result of the contact, allowing Boquida to maintain P2 for the remainder of the race. Boquida will compete in the Esports GT Semi-Final race on Saturday from 9:30am CEST (6:30pm AEDT). Watch the full replay via the FIA Motorsport Games YouTube.

Esports F4 
Jake Burton put in an impressive performance in Quarter Final 3 from the lower end of the grid to finish third in Esports F4 on Friday. The Victorian avoided a major incident on the first lap, ultimately allowing Burton to make up a considerable amount of places. Although he finished the race in fourth place, a post-race penalty for Team Spain elevated Burton's position to third for the Semi-Final on Saturday. The Esports F4 Semi-Final kicks off at 2pm CEST (11:00pm AEDT). 

GriffinPeebles

Formula 4 
Griffin Peebles showed plenty of consistency throughout Free Practice 1 and Free Practice 2 for Formula 4, finishing P6 and P5 respectively. The first session allowed Peebles to run his Tatuus T-421 for 13 laps, setting his fastest lap of 1:36.061 on the seventh lap. The young Australian continued the consistency in the second session, with 15 laps and a fastest time of 1:36.205. Peebles will begin Qualifying on Saturday from 8:30am CEST (5:30pm CEST). Auto Slalom 
Corinne East-Johnston and Reece McIntosh begun their FIA Motorsport Games campaign with a huge first day of running. The duo worked hard to get familiar with the left-hand drive Hyundai KONA Electric N Line, finishing Qualifying in 14th place with a time of 6:07.636 and securing their spot in the "Eight Final". The competition now shifts to a knockout format, with East-Johnston and McIntosh beginning their Saturday running from 2:15pm CEST (11:15pm AEDT).

Karting Sprint Senior 
Pip Casabene got plenty of practice in for the first day of running for Karting Sprint Senior. Casabene completed the four practice sessions in 13th, 10th, 16th and 14th respectively. The young Australian will look to Qualifying on Saturday, beginning at 11:00am CEST (8:00pm AEDT).

Karting Sprint Junior
Riley Harrison put his skills to the test in the four practice sessions for Karting Sprint Junior in what was a highly competitive session. Harrison completed the practice sessions in 23rd, 15th, 32nd and 27th. The next session for Karting Sprint Junior will be Qualifying from 10:20am CEST (7:20pm AEDT).

Karting Sprint Mini
Jay Kostecki showed plenty of pace on Friday in Karting Sprint Mini. With the Mini sessions spread across two groups, Kosteski was able to get maximum running and lead the third and fourth practice sessions. Kostecki completed the four practice sessions in 2nd, 3rd, 1st, and 1st. Karting Sprint Mini Qualifying will be split across two groups and begins at 11:25am CEST (8:25pm AEDT).
