The Motorsport Australia Board has approved updated concussion protocols, as recommended by the governing body’s National Medical Advisory Committee (NMAC).
The 2025 Concussion Management Guidelines support the widely endorsed use of Concussion Recognition Tool (CRT6) and Sport Concussion Assessment Tool (SCAT6) which provides healthcare professionals at motorsport events with the most up-to-date tools to recognise and assess concussion and the appropriate next steps.
NMAC comprises some of the sport’s leading medical and industry professionals including, Dr Matthew Croxford, Dr Brent May, Dr Matthew Mac Partlin, Dr Jennifer Devine, Mr Greg Gibson and Dr Karyn Lun working to make the sport as safe as practicable.
Motorsport Australia CEO Sunil Vohra noted the revised guidelines were led by Dr Brent May whose extensive experience as Chief Medical Officer for Formula 1, Medical Advisor to Supercars, FIA Doctor of the Year 2016, Anaesthesia Trauma Fellow and a motorsport trauma specialist is integral to the evolution of safety protocols in the sport and a reflection of Motorsport Australia’s commitment to safety, risk mitigation and governance.
The Concussion Management Guidelines will be published in January 2025.
