After a dramatic finish to the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint, the Repco Supercars Championship heads to New Zealand for round three of the season – the second-ever ITM Taupō Super400.
The Albert Park round was cut short due to heavy rain, resulting in the cancellation of the final race on Sunday. As a result, Will Brown was awarded the Larry Perkins Trophy, becoming the first driver to ever win it twice. Pole sitter Broc Feeney finished the weekend in second, while Cameron Hill – winner of Friday’s race – completed the trophy podium in third.
Following a successful debut in 2024, the Taupō International Motorsport Park once again plays host to Supercars, with the New Zealand circuit quickly establishing itself as a favourite among fans and drivers alike. Its blend of tight, technical corners and fast-flowing sections promises another weekend of high-intensity racing.
Championship leader Will Brown arrives in Taupō with a seven-point lead over Cam Waters, who dominated the season opener in Sydney but endured a mixed run in Melbourne. The pair are shaping up as the early title contenders, though Brown’s teammate Broc Feeney isn’t far behind in third after a consistent showing in the first two rounds.
Also in the mix are Chaz Mostert, who sits fourth in the standings, and 2023 champion Brodie Kostecki, currently fifth. Both drivers will be looking to take a step forward this weekend as the battle at the front continues to tighten.
Adding to the excitement is the home crowd support for Kiwi drivers Matthew Payne and Richie Stanaway. Payne, in particular, will be one to watch – sitting sixth in the points. Expect plenty of local energy in the grandstands as fans rally behind their New Zealand stars.
The event will run across three days, with two practice sessions on Friday, back-to-back 37-lap races on Saturday, and a 61-lap feature on Sunday
