Aussie stars impress on world stage

Formula 3 – Monaco

Monaco lived up to its reputation as the ultimate test of precision and patience, with Australian driver James Wharton pulling off an impressive drive in Sunday’s Feature Race.

Starting 22nd on the grid, the Aussie rookie carved his way through the field to finish 11th, an amazing improvement on a track where overtaking is notoriously difficult.

Wharton’s Monaco debut got off to a tricky start in Free Practice, where heavy traffic and a red flag limited his running.

Despite switching to soft tyres late in the session, he ended up 29th. Qualifying proved equally tough, with a lap time of 1:26.457 leaving him 22nd.

Saturday’s Sprint Race saw Wharton adopt a cautious approach, knowing that risky moves in Monaco rarely pay off. After initially dropping to 24th, he regained positions as chaos unfolded ahead, finishing P22.

The Feature Race was where Wharton truly shone, performing a strong launch off the starting line and steadily overtaking rivals with a consistent pace.

By the closing laps, he surged to 12th before securing 11th, moving up eleven places on one of F3’s toughest circuits.

“We made changes for the Sprint Race, learned a lot, and things came together in the Feature. I felt much more confident, and I’m thankful to the team for their hard work,” Wharton said.

“We’ve made huge progress since Thursday, and I’m confident heading to Barcelona, a track I know well and where I won twice last year in FRECA.

“The goal is to qualify stronger and score solid points before the break”.

The next round of the 2025 Formula 3 Championship takes place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 30 May – 1 June.

Formula 1 – Monaco

The 2025 Monaco Grand Prix provided another incredible result for the McLaren team, with both drivers finishing on the podium.

A new mandate of two pit stops for every driver was introduced for this year’s race, with each team developing new pit strategies during the race.

In Saturday’s Qualifying session, Australian Oscar Piastri secured third for the race, only six hundredths behind Charles Leclerc.

The race saw Piastri’s teammate Lando Norris start in first, and performing a strong launch into turn one.

Both McLaren drivers showed strong pace, with Norris building a three second gap from the rest of the field by the final lap.

Piastri defended his position throughout the race, surviving a near racing incident with Max Verstappen on lap 10.

The Aussie’s focus for the rest of the race was to challenge Leclerc for P2. However, Piastri was unable to pass the Monegasque and finished in third, backing up Norris, the race winner.

This was Piastri’s seventh straight podium this year, with the Australian still in the lead of the Drivers’ Championship, three points ahead of Norris.

The 2025 Formula 1 Championship heads to Barcelona on 30 May – 1 June.

GB4 Championship – Oulton Park

Young Australian Jack Taylor made an impressive comeback during a challenging round of the 2025 GB4 Championship at Oulton Park.

After a strong Qualifying session where Taylor secured fourth, Race One proved to be more difficult, with wet conditions at the start of the race influencing Fortec Motorsports’ tyre strategy.

Taylor remained on slick tyres, resulting in him running off the track and eventually rejoining, finishing in 22nd.

The rain continued for the second race, but thankfully stopped right before the drivers hit the track. These conditions weren’t favourable for Taylor, which resulted in a DNF after seven laps.

However, Taylor delivered his best racing in Race Three, starting from the pit lane and crossing the finish line in fifth with a time of 16:31:972.

The next round of the 2025 GB4 Championship takes place on 12-13 July for the Snetterton 300.

British F4 – Snetterton (300)

Jimmy Piszcyk and Xavier Avramides both showcased their strong driving skills at Round 3 of the 2025 British F4 Championship.

Piszcyk started the race weekend collecting track limit penalties that put him out of position in Qualifying, securing 14th.

This made the first race difficult for the Aussie to recover, with Piszcyk unfortunately retiring due to contact with another driver, resulting in a puncture.

Avramides faced challenges as well, qualifying behind Piszcyk in 16th.

Race One saw Avramides produce strong pace, climbing to tenth before dropping back to 19th due to contact and damage to his car.

Race Two saw Piszcyk improve on his Race One result finishing in 12th, while Avramides crossed the line in 19th after getting caught in a racing incident.

Both drivers made significant improvements in the final race, with Piszcyk bouncing back to produce an overtaking masterclass, fighting his way from 13th to fourth.

This amazing result has put Jimmy right up towards the sharp end of the Drivers’ Championship, now sitting in third.

Avramides pushed his way through Race Three, finishing in 11th with a time of 26:58.635.

“It’s been a challenging weekend for us, but we managed to salvage a great result out of the weekend right at the end there,” Piszcyk said.

“I felt sorry for the team for Saturday, but they gave me a mega car for the final race and we made up for it in that one.

“Some consistent laps, good overtaking and more important points scored to keep the title push on the right track.”

Round 4 of the 2025 British F4 Championship is set for 7-8 June at Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire.

Italian F4 – Vallelunga

The second round of the 2025 Italian F4 Championship was eventful for Australian driver Dante Vinci.

During Qualifying, Vinci secured seventh during a chaotic session that involved a red flag.

The Aussie walked away with 10th for Race Two, with a time of 27:47.170, as well as a rookie podium finish.

In Race Three, Vinci wasn’t so lucky, crossing the finish line in eighth but was handed a 10 second penalty for contact with Bart Harrison, dropping him down to 19th.

The next round of the 2025 Italian F4 Championship takes place at Monza on 22 June.

USF2000 – Indianapolis

Eddie Beswick put in a persistent effort in his first outing at the Lucas Oil IRP in Indianapolis.

Starting the race in tenth, Beswick finished 14th with a total time of 29:33.9236.

Brad Majman, also Australian, was consistent throughout the race weekend, topping the charts in Practice and securing 11th in Qualifying.

Majman gained eight spots to finish third by the end of the 75 laps, making it the Aussie’s first podium in USF2000.

The next round of the 2025 USF2000 Championship is heading to Elkhart Lake on 19-22 June.

Indycar – Indianapolis

Will Power put in a great effort at the 109th running of the Indianapolis 500.

Power secured 12th in Qualifying with a total time of 2:35.0760, running just one tenth behind Team Penske teammate Josef Newgarden.

The race was not the outcome he was hoping for, crossing the line in 16th, 3.6 seconds behind Ed Carpenter.

The next round of the 2025 NTT Indycar Series is set for 1 June at Detroit.
