Australians Taylor Gill and Daniel Brkic will hope to achieve success against one of their biggest challenges of the 2025 FIA Junior World Rally Championship (JWRC) season, when they take part in Acropolis Rally Greece this weekend.
This year has been kind to this point for the duo, leading the JWRC standings following wins in Sweden and Portugal earlier this year, however Swedish driver Mille Johansson stands level on points.
Gill and Brkic also currently rank second in the WRC3 standings on 50 points, thanks to both of their efforts in Sweden and Portugal.
The Acropolis Rally continues to boast a notorious reputation with drivers, for its rough gravel roads, high attrition and extreme temperatures reaching over 40 degrees Celsius, where reaching the finish line is almost as much of an accomplishment as setting a fast time.
Neither Gill or Brkic are considered rookies at the Acropolis Rally, with both earning their salt at last year’s edition of the event.
“We know firsthand how rough and tough this event can be,” Gill said.
“We were undone by a large rock in this event last year, which put paid to our title chances, so we’re hoping this year will be different.
“There’s certainly an element of luck involved in this event with the amount of rocks around, especially being down in the Junior field. We have to manage our weekend well.”
The 2025 Acropolis Rally will be based out of Lamia, Greece, where crews will tackle 17 special stages across 345 kilometres. It is considered one of the more popular events on the WRC calendar.
Gill explains the testing nature of Acropolis will push their Ford Fiesta Rally3 to the limit, but the Aussies are confident the car will hold up under duress.
“We definitely have to plan our rally and make smart decisions throughout,” Gill said.
“It’s tricky because we need the points for stage wins, but a mistake when pushing for those points would cost us in our overall result, so there’s a fine line.”
