Motorsport Australia is providing various Tasmanian-based officials training courses at Symmons Plains Raceway, starting later this month.

The courses will take place on Sunday 24 August, catering to officials with a range of experience levels; covering areas such as Fire & Rescue Training, Flag Marshalling, and an Introductory Officials course designed for newcomers.

Tasmania State Panel Officials Chair Rosemary Taylor explained that the new courses were created in response to fresh calls for extra training.

“Upcoming training in August for flags, fire and rescue is just the start for us,” Taylor said.

“Further to that, if you have someone who would like to volunteer as an official invite them along.

“We hope this will be the first of many sessions that we hold before the end of the year.”

The Fire and Rescue and Flag Marshalling courses are intended to be bronze, however, if bronze-level officials are wanting to up skill, then organisers will also endeavour to facilitate relevant requests.

The Introductory Officials Course for newcomers is a fantastic opportunity for those looking to get started as a General Official. This course is usually completed online, however due to the pre-exisiting training sessions available, it will also be available on the day.

For anyone interested in participating in this training session, they can complete the Officials Training Registration Formbefore the closing date of Thursday 21 August.

Motorsport Australia is also calling for expressions of interest from Tasmanian officials to undertake additional courses in the future.

Motorsport Australia will gauge numbers on who would be interesting in participating in the following courses:

• Event Command
• Timing
• Stewards

“We are also planning up skilling courses in most disciplines, so we are relying on you to let us know what you need. Remember we need your support to make this happen,” Taylor added.
